I've been putting together a "gaming go bag" and of course a deck of regular cards will go in it. I was looking for some compact rules -- the The Penguin Book of Card Games is great but not too portable. It occurred to me that perhaps someone has a set of card rules for standard games, but in a deck form instead of a book form? Is there such a thing as a "Deck of Rules"?

Not that I know of, but I use a paperback version of Hoyle's Games (that link may not be helpful--try looking up Hoyle's on Amazon). If you have a smart phone, you can use www.pagat.com -- though I find some of the rules there don't agree with my Hoyles'.

I'd thought of pagat -- thanks for the recommendation -- it would be good in most situations. But I'm looking for an off-line, no batteries required, compact set of rules for the basic games.

I don't know of a deck consisting entirely of rules (though the idea sounds like a sound one), but every deck of Modiano cards we have came with cards with the rules for Scopa and for Briscola printed on them, if that helps.

Some of the Hoyle card game sets (Canasta, Pinochle, Euchre) have the rules printed on playing cards included in the box.

In your wanted a general solution, how about using a site like artscow to make the cards for you - you just supply the rules/card you want.
