CGE is working on new version of TTA. Reprinting of current version is on hold. New one will be streamlined and with new ruleset - faster play is priority.

That's all I know.

I would not mind if players took turns taking actions. That would be a welcome change to the downtime that permeates 3P and 4P games, and might also allow an opponent to respond better to threats of military assault.

And add a new element of tension to the card row. I like it.

You better not be joking, because this would be great! Especially if there is any talk of rebalancing some cards (Napolean) and/or expansion cards...

Unfortunately wouldn't this slow it down further?

That's an excellent idea. Take a top 10 game, and ruin it with silly changes!

True, it might make the game slower. On the other hand, calculating a chunk of 6-7 actions in the mid- to late- game is time consuming, adding the uncertainty of breaking into one action at a time might speed things up. Who knows?

"Streamlined" and "faster play" reads to me like they are going to dumb it down. I understand their reasoning, considering that is much of what it is criticized for. I'm sure the new version will appeal much more to those who had less patience and time to learn the game as-is. However, by the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like something that is going to replace the current version for me.

I like the game just fine now. The only thing I can think of that could be improved (very minor) is to tweak some of the cards for balance and improve the art.

If this is true or not matters little to me. It sounds like a terrible idea. Why not just make a new game. We will all be playing Nations in a month anyway.

Disclaimer: TTA is my all time #1 game.

This is the current trend among publishers. FFG has shown that there's a lot of money to made by taking a game that's already great and/or classic and making changes so they can say it's "better", "improved", "more streamlined", "faster", etc., etc.

Curious whether Vlaada is involved and, if so, to what extent—and whether this was his idea or CGE's.

Speeding up the game is a plus for me. Takes too long as it is.

A four-player game is four hours of bliss for me. If I want a shorter game, and I rarely do, I'll play something else.

Remember when Vlaada revamped Talisman? How many Talisman fans switched to Prophecy?

No.

I own both games and I'm glad to have both of them. I can't quite see how I'd be better off if Prophecy didn't exist.

I for one would hope they get rid of the fiddly little, tiny bits and give the game something more serviceable.
Full size cards would be nice and that gives more room for larger bits.

The game already consumes significant table space! Larger cards could put it into the Railroad Tycoon level of monster.

I think it just shows that CGE (and Vlaada) are with the times. Long, bloated game designs are simply no longer highly marketable. Is there a niche for them? Of course. Some people love them and always will. However, their has been a clear shift towards more minimalist designs or games that don't take an entire evening to play. I still expect the new game to be a 60-120 mins and will probably be a very meaty experience. It's not like the game is going to turn into something like 7 Wonders in terms of weight.

Through the Ages is still available and it's nice that this news has leaked now. People that have been on the fence can pull the trigger and acquire the current version before it disappears.

It's a figure of speech. Maybe I should have used "more accessible". Sorry if any offense caused.
