Carcassonne

Close to no reading required...
VivaJava [dice - it's close...]
Ticket to Ride

My children are masters of Dragon Parade and Dweebies - and will be trying Tsuro soon.

There is a supposition I have that children's games frequently don't choose to simplify the game in a meaningful way--my kids (2 & 5) can handle a surprising amount of complexity...okay, I'm probably exaggerating when it comes to the 2yr old. What they CAN'T do is read. So, my primary source of game material is language independant games. Botswanna is up next, Coloretto will be soon behind. I'm wondering how Yspahan & Spyrium would be received [I own neither]. What I'd really like to do is assemble a gradient of complexities...organized along the no-reading scale. Since language independent components DON'T require reading skills, I certainly think we're ready for them now. There's no real need for "kids" games in our house

If you know of good games with language independent components, please! list them here so I can get more familiar with them. Ticket to Ride is CLOSE...and I'll be trying that soon also. It'll be about 2 years before the oldest is a comfortable & super-proficient reader...and the youngest should be playing those simpler games (again, Dragon Parade is a standout so far) in appx. 1 year - 2 tops. And to complete my parental timeframe [ ] I'll still be NEEDING games with this type of accessibility to my 'child geeks' for the next 5 YEARS! Faints. That's a loooooooonnnngg time.

So they better rock - hard.

Wheedle The cards have text (names of companies) but it is not necessary to the game because it's about collecting color sets.

10 Days in Africa The cards have the names of countries, but also the shape and color of them as they correspond to the map on the game board. Can be educational.

Coloretto

Can't Stop

Money!

Ingenious

ZÈRTZ

Cityscape

Of course, most of these games have small parts and/or cards and may not be suitable for a 2 year old.

I think your 5-year-old definitely could handle Mondo and Survive: Escape from Atlantis!, and possibly also Blue Moon City and Kingdoms. There are of course hundreds of dexterity games and purely abstract games to choose between as well...
