My favorite kinds of board games are ones that are thematic and have at least some attention paid to character and story. What are some of your favorite video game worlds that you wish were adapted to a board game?

The Mass Effect Series - So much potential in this trilogy for a lot of different types of games. Space exploration, diplomacy, combat, role playing... in all honesty, I cannot believe there isn't one yet.

Final Fantasy VII - One of my favorite games of all time. Maybe a deck building game based around materia? I'd also like to have a board that resembles the game's world map and go explore various locations and fight monsters...

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: I know I know, this is based on the role playing game, which I'm also a huge fan of, but this game had such a unique mood and aesthetic that I would really love to see in a game. Despite whatever sub-genre of game it would end up being, this is way to rich of an IP not to have been adapted by now.

Some other honorable mentions that I'd like to see just based on their mood and worlds:

The Penumbra Series

Indigo Prophecy

Heavy Rain

Amnesia: The Descent

This is reaching way back now, but... Sacrifice.

I bet a lot of people will say Final Fantasy Tactics and XCOM.

I for one would like to see

Shadow of the Colossus the puzzle card game
Dead Space the horror dungeon crawl
Yggdra Union the deck builder (obvi)
Trap Gunner 1on1 skirmish miniature game
Kerbal Space Program worker placement
Unreal Tournament the real time dice game

Kind of cheating since the video game is a board game, but Card Hunter.

Sometimes the video games that you wish had board games do get a board game and the results are less than you expected. Be careful what you wish for.

Risk: Metal Gear Solid

A diplomatic take on the Mass Effect Universe could be really cool. You'd want to be sure it didn't borrow too much from Eclipse, but if you did it correctly, it could be a very thematic game.

Culdcept Saga or its predecessor Culdcept.

Can't count the number of hours I've spent playing them. I bought an Xbox 360 just to play Culdcept Saga.

Long before Mass Effect (which failed to grab me)
There was the brilliant, Jade Empire. I'd love to see an PseudoRPG in this universe with this combat sysytem somehow translated into a board game http://jadeempire.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

M.U.L.E ==> Planet Steam
Pirates! ==> Merchants & Marauders
Or can any game get closer to the originals?

Edit: I wished a X-Com Clone, the game Target Earth comes near, but is not sufficient enough for the tactical stuff.

I can't be the only one thinking Borderlands would make a great FFG style board game, think Gears of War meets Warhammer Quest/Descent.

I'd check out either Galaxy Defenders or Level 7 [Omega Protocol]. Both seem like great transitions of the X-Com mission format into board game form.

How has it NOT been adapted? Searching for 'Vampire' would help...

Vampire: The Eternal Struggle
Vampire: Prince of the City
Vampire: Dark Influences

Granted, the latter two are based on Requiem and not on Masquerade but it doesn't make that much of a difference in a board or card game.

Mario Kart. Maybe like Formula D except with items and a tad more strategy and a tad more blue shells.

Naw, Fahrenheit is sort of like the spiritual brother of Indigo Prophecy. We got both.

I'd love to see an Amnesia board game- a resource gatherer under threat of a NPC monster would be interesting.
