Republicans seem to think it means offering a choice of where they get to punch you.

This is not the budget, it's a temporary spending plan, the main budget (and indeed the deficit debate) is yet to come.

And Democrats have been asking for a budget conference since April. It is very obvious who wanted this to happen and who wasn't willing to negotiate.

the compromise was the $700 billion reduction for the $988 billion CR. Boehner agreed to that deal, and then reneged.

A compromise is not making a deal, then coming back to the well and demanding more.

Yep, the reason the Republicans blocked the Budget conference committee is so they could pull this stunt.

You can't make demands when it comes to routine governing. If you give nothing, then you aren't asking for compromise.. you are simply asking to get what you want while giving nothing.

You know, in ancient and medieval law of the Germanic tradition, including Anglo-Saxon tradition on which US law ultimately draws, when two parties had a dispute each would select a champion and the issue was decided by combat. Perhaps arm Reid with a trident and net, Boehner with a short stabbing sword and small round shield. Then confine them to the Senate floor until a winner emerges in a fight to the death. Whichever party wins sets to decide the key issues in their favor.

That would work very well on TV, and set a great example for the kids as well. Do it.

Nice image, two half naked old men trying to stab each other.

Set it to the gladiatorial music from the original Star Trek series and I'd watch that.

You're the only one insisting they can't have clothes.

That is a victorian age ideal, and while we are a nation run by latter day quakers, for the other 15,000 years of human history, nudity did not equate to sexuality.

Still an odd choice as you talked about the Germanic honor combat then choose Roman weaponry. Would not a shield and broad sword have been more appropriate for an Anglo-Saxon fight?
