Yes, this is a very funny joke Essen=food/eating in german

However I'm actually looking for good restaurants with good old genuine german food.

Are there any nice restaurants close to the fair or the train station?

The Essen forum is full of good advice. Some of it is a few pages back, but it's all there.

I've not been in Essen for um three years now, but the Pfefferkorn was always the best food. Slightly slow service, not as bad as the Drago, but one time my second Pils arrived as we were putting our coats on. But just excellent food, friendly staff, they do their best to accommodate you. It can get crowded, but it's worth the effort.
