24 hour is a good change. (Says the night owl in me.) I played into the wee hours last year but ended up with my stuff locked up in the main hall... which made sense and my fault for not paying attention.

What is the extent of support for night gaming? Tables in secondary rooms only or will the main hall be open? S'mores?

We haven't finalized the layout for the convention space yet. The main reason we closed the main room at night was to protect the exhibitor booths while they got some sleep. If we have exhibitor booths in the main hall again, then we will likely need to close it again late at night.

Even if we do, I expect there will be enough space for the all-nighters to game. Probably a few smaller rooms just off the main hall.

The game library will likely be in the same area as the exhibitors so it will likely lock up at the same time. We will probably allow overnight checkout of games, though, so you will just need to plan ahead a little.

I am a little disappointed that I didn't take someone up on an offer to start a Twilight Imperium game at midnight last year. Although the year before that I did teach a game of Eclipse starting at about 1am. whistle

I just realized how strange I am. I put on my SaltCON t-shirt to flip through and look for articles, questions and comments about 2014 SaltCON.

PS - Dan - I am nominating you to run TI at the next con. In fact, I think you should put up a sign up list since I know there are folk who love the game, but NEVER get to play it..

A little early for a signup list, I think.

I did put together an 8 player game that went from 10am to 10pm on a Saturday once. That was rather epic. Usually I prefer 4 player for time and player options.

Would be happy to run a game sometime. I still need to try out some of the options from the last expansion.

I was under the impression that the event on the 16th was at Weber State University (as opposed to the Weber County Main Library). Is that not correct?

Agreed. One of these days, I keep telling myself that I'm going to go to GMT Weekend, ConsimWorld Expo, or Strategicon, but I never seem to make it. Didn't know Salt Lake had a convention too. Might have to throw this in the mix of conventions to attend hopefully sometime in the near future...

Any suggestions on how we can get the word out, and get more people in the Las Vegas area to come?

I know my brother and his wife in Henderson are always on the lookout for more boardgamers.

It is tough. Not a lot of catering to board gamers down here, and Vegas has become designed to be entirely separated and deprtmentalizingly self sufficient, so people rarely cross paths in the same ways as in other towns. You should contact Avatar Games via their facebook account to see if you can send some fliers their way. Friendliest board game shop in Vegas, even if not the best selection-wise.

Little Shop of Magic might post fliers, but it depends on whether the owner has alienated his entire board gaming clientele or not by that point.

Action Comics has an extremely passive board gaming presence, so you might hit a couple of people there, but unlikely.

The rest of the stores are for more casual gamers.

Overall, I think the "culture" of this town just keeps large groups of people from connecting for things like this. 2.3 Million people, and our comic-con is depressing, our only game convention pretty much imploded from lack of attendance and other things. It's really sad. I was working in a small town in North Dakota a couple of months ago, maybe 30,000 people max, and their board gaming community was better structured and connected than Las Vegas.

I think part of the problem here too is there is just too much going on all the time, so stuff like this can more readily slip through the cracks.

That said, I have it on good word that even with a change in organization this year, SaltCon is a rollicking good time. I'll keep my eyes on this thread and pass the word along as well.

Whew! Let the Con updates commence is right! There were so many in the last week or so, that I'm just putting them all in the header, instead of listing them all here.

Tons of game demos, pre-release demos, tournaments, and lots of sponsors!

Tell me what you most liked about SaltCON in years past, and I'll make sure it's even better this year! thumbsup

I really enjoyed running the Math Trade the last few years at SaltCON, but now that I've joined the team as an organizer, I've got my hands full with the Ion Award events, and other preparations.

Plus the Math Trade has always been run by the community. That's one of the things I've always loved about SaltCON, is the great community. I took up the torch when the previous torch-bearer moved out of state and now I think it's time for me to pass it on.

I usually started the math trade about 3-4 weeks before the start of the convention, so that still gives us plenty of time before we need to get it started this year, but I wanted to make this announcement, and give another individual the opportunity to step up. It's a lot of fun, and a great way to contribute to the community.

I posted this in the Facebook group as well.

So, who's game?
