Hi Everyone -
I am a freshman in UCI and I am an international student from China. I like playing Wargames but has little opportunities playing face-to-face. I usually play wargames by PBEM through VASSAL. Now I come to Irvine, the USA, and try to find someone playing wargames here.

2019 Update: No longer in CA.

What types of wargames are you interested in playing? Any particular subjects? Design styles? Mechanics? Do you lean towards classic hex-and-counter? Or do you prefer the current, CDG-style games? Block games? Miniatures? Or do you like them all?

There are Orange County wargamers. But your interests will lead you to different groups.

It's not Irvine, but I hear the St. Crispin gamers get together in Anaheim a couple Saturdays a month. (Haven't had a chance to go myself).

Also the SoCal ASL folks are active.

Assuming there's no active on-campus groups -- which would be shocking (zot! Hehe), Victory Point Game's HQ is in Costa Mesa. While Brookhurst Hobbies has the best local game selection, it's in Garden Grove and I've almost never seen a non-miniature wargame played there.

Irvine's about an hour away from my house, and we wargame fairly regularly. Would you be interested in coming out for a Veteran's Day event?

I am interested in classic hex-and-counter games.
I have played TCC, N44, A44, TRC and ASLSK1 and SK2 and some Chinese Wargames.

I haven't bought a car. Could I contact you and know some information about your wargame meeting?

Thank you! I haven't bought a car. I wanna know some information first.
I am sad about there isn't a wargame club on campus.

The OC Boardgamers meet once a month at the Duck Club, which is very close to UCI. You might be able to arrange a wargame there (there are a couple wargamers that show up occasionally, but it is mostly boardgames).

The SoCal ASL club is holding a one-day event (Burning Wreck BBQ) on 30 November in Irvine:

Thank you! I find that it is only 2 KM from UCI to the Duck Club. I also play some boardgames and I can try to meet some wargamers there.
