My GF and I bought Nightfall a few weeks ago and enjoyed it so much that we picked up the following expansions from a MM clearance sale:

* Nightfall - Martial Law Expansion
* Nightfall - Coldest War Expansion
* Nightfall - Blood Country Expansion

My question is this....

How many of the new mechanics should we add into the game in the early plays of these expansions?

Are there some mechanics best left for a later date?

Are there any new mechanics from these sets that you consider essential?

Thanks

I recommend just adding them one at a time in sequential order and you will see the game naturally expand. The earlier cards are the simplest and they get more complex with each set to a degree.

There aren't any essential mechanics per se, but each new one adds more depth and fun to the game.

Glad you enjoyed the game!

I agree with Mike, though I suggest mixing in the new starter cards from Coldest War ASAP and also immediately switch to using the draft setup rules from Blood Country as we improved them there.

Thanks David.

I just put in an order for Eastern Skies too... can you share a little more info on the new chaining mechanic from that set?

After playing one game with the base set, my group was able to just jump right in with everything except moons. (After a few games, we still have not used the moons.)

Setup took awhile because there was a lot of draft cards with so many sets, and everyone had to customize their starting deck -- but those were also some of the most fun parts of the game.

I can't say much as we like the first to receive it to be the first to learn about it. I can say that the new Link mechanic ties in very heavily with the existing chaining mechanic.

David you big tease you!

Quick rules question:

If a card says to look at the top 3 cards of your deck and re-arrange in any order, but you only have 1 or 2 cards in your deck (rest are in discard), do you shuffle and then perform the action? Or is it tough luck?

Thanks

Tough luck! You only get to shuffle when you need to "draw" and cannot shake

Thanks, that was our assumption.

Final question (blush)... Can a "Target archive" target any archive? Even private ones?

Yep! When a phrase is vague like that, it means all. So target "archive" means private or common, "card" means action or minion, etc.

And it's cool, ask as many questions as you like
