I'm going to be in Italy for the next two weeks, primarily in Florence, although I'll be in Venice for a few days (and will no doubt get down to Rome once or twice as well, although there will be less time for searching out game stores there when I do.) Can anyone recommend any board game stores in any of those cities?

Last time I was in Florence (about 6 years ago), I believe I was in a game store about a block or so north of the Duomo, but my memory is a bit hazy on that point, and I don't recall what sorts of games they carried (assuming I'm otherwise remember that correctly). I'm going to look for that place again, but any recommendations for stores are greatly appreciated (as well as any recommendations for particular games that I should keep an eye out for when I'm in Italy.)

Well, I don't know about Florence, but while in Venice you could pay a visit to "Lanterna Magica" (Castello, 5379), the game store of the "War of the Ring" authors, and perhaps buy the expansion!

Edit 06.19.2009: Lanterna Magica has moved. The new address is Sant'Eufemia, 673.

That's a great idea -- just what I was looking for. Thanks.

Looking at a map, I'm quite sure that Stratagemma was the store I went to when I was in Florence back in 2000. I'm definitely going back there, and I'll be making a trip to Lanterna Magica when I'm in Venice.

Molti grazie!

(I hope that's right -- I'd better start practicing my Italian)

I was in Florence in Sept. of 2007. Strategam was still there and well worth the time to go.

Their latest facebook post is only 4 days old, so I guess they're still open.
