There is a website here, http://www.rasche-software.de/kd/manual/contentdokoe/ess21.h..., where it talks about using the essener system for, among other things, determing the strength of your hand for whether or not to make announcements in the first 3 tricks. However, I am having difficulty in trying to figure out the table at the top. For instance, at the top of the table under value of trick in the first box it says, "= own card +20 +2/7 of the rest card value. So I am not sure where they are coming up with some of the figures like the 20 or 2/7. Im sure Im missing something incredibly simple. I admit, math is not my strongest subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks kirk

The table is wrong. There are some brackets missing.
You can compare it with the german version (page 8): http://www.dodoko.de/Downloads/Essener_System.pdf

The calculated value is: your own card + 20, or to be exactly: your own card + the As from the first player + 2/7 of the other points
