For two experienced wargamers, what is the best scenario to start playing this game with?
Looking for opinions on this.

Life and death come and go like marionettes dancing on a table. Once their strings are cut, they easily crumble.

I'd say Marathon or - if you want the rush - Leuctra.

Both scenarios have no - if not minimal - terrain. Leuctra of the two may be a little more balanced (battle wise), while Marathon may require the experienced player to take the Persians.

Start with Marathon. Even for experienced wargamers, getting your head around that big list of DRMs is awkward - the system is quite unlike any other game you've played. Marathon is very straightforward and lets you focus on the basics.

After that, you can pretty much play anything. None of the scenarios are leaps and bounds more complex than any others.

I'm late to throw in my 2 cents, but I think Sentinum is a good starter battle for learning the rules. It is a straight forward infantry mash on flat, clear ground with fairly large and remarkably balanced cavalry forces on both wings. Each army has only 3 troop types. With "historical" deployments its not a battle that will generally reward elaborate maneuvers so its a good basic set up for focusing on mechanics. It is a fairly balanced battle even though the barbarians are fatigued. The Romans are likely to win the battle but it is very difficult for them to win the game. The barbarians have a reasonable shot at decisive victory if things go their way. For a second game throw in the deployment rules to open up the tactical options.

Indeed: Do not introduce new players to wargaming by giving them the Persians.
