No! This is not a board game, but Stanislao Moulinsky in one of his best disguises!

Thursday to Saturday I attended the Essen fair where, unlike the previous years, I managed to play a lot of games: I've prepared a geeklist listing all those I tried out (it's thirteen games!).

I was particularly struck by Mage Wars Arena: I had been wanting to play it so badly but while at home couldn't find anyone who owned it. Yet at the Pegasus booth there were no less than half a dozen Mage Wars demo tables, so I was able to play it twice, on different days and with different opponents: I think I'll buy it soon.

I also fell in love with Mice and Mystics: I was sure I'd like it but, before purchasing, I wanted to play it at least once. I finally did it, under the supervision of the author, and as soon as the game ended I bought both the base game and its expansion.
What a lovely game it is!

Even BANG! The Dice Game and Flash Point: Fire Rescue – Extreme Danger impressed me: the former keeps all the best things of the original card game discarding the boring parts (such as the painfully long length), the latter makes Flash Point more challenging and way more fun overall.

As for the other games I played, I'll let said geeklist do the talking.

Nothing again this weekend. We had visitors who are not only not interested in games but there's a language barrier as well that would have made it impossible for me.

Took the day off Friday so my weekend technically started on Thursday evening. Lotsa games played over those 4 days!

Thursday:
Lost Cities x3 - First time playing this one. Fun game for 2!

Friday:
Battle Line x2 - Another first-time play. Not sure you need both Lost Cities and Battle Line, kinda samey...
Village x1 - I think I enjoy this one more each time we play. Great replayability due to the variety of strategies possible.
Ticket to Ride x1 - 3-player TTR can be brutal!

Saturday:
Catan x1
Munchkin x1 - A surprisingly painless game of Munchkin...
7 Wonders x2

Sunday:
Ticket to Ride x1
Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game x1 - Another new one for us. Played 2-player with my 11 year old daughter. She now claims this is her favorite game!

My game group had our Extra Life event this weekend, so I got lots of games in over a 25-hour period:

Loopin' Louie x2 - We kicked it off with this, playing to three. I played again later in the day, winning a total of three rounds but not winning either match.
Tapple - This game was a surprise hit during the day. An enjoyable enough word game, but I wasn't interested enough to play it as much as some people did.
Relic Runners - Got to play this new Days of Wonder title. I liked it - great components, and a fun game to boot.
Farmageddon - Taught this to a couple of new players and one who had played before. I came in second to the other experienced player.
Gravwell: Escape from the 9th Dimension - Played a two-player game. I liked it - quick and easy to explain, and enough strategy to keep me interested in a short game.
Hanabi - We scored 17 points, and only lost one fuse.
Two Rooms and a Boom x2 - In our first game (16 players), the Red team won. Oddly enough, the Bomber and President were both the youngest players in the game. In the second game (11 players), the Blue team won. We had gray characters in this one - the Sniper correctly got the Target, and the Gambler (me) correctly predicted the Blue team's victory.
Lords of Vegas - I had been wanting to play this for a while and finally got to. I came in second of four.
Coloretto - I taught this and played a three round, three player game. I came in second.
Fearsome Floors - I've played this around Halloween the last three years. I didn't win this time.
duck! duck! Go! - Played this much lighter version of RoboRally, and won!
Puerto Rico - I taught this and played a five player game, which it won.
Eight-Minute Empire - Played this for the first time, and liked it well enough. The player who liked it the least at the table won (and then won again later).
Prophecy - Played this early Vlaada Chvátil title and snuck a victory in a three-player shortened game.
Six Shooter - Yahtzee Bingo. Did not like this one, but this was really the only dud of the day for me.
Merchant of Venus (second edition) - We began this at 4:00 am. We ended at 8:30 am (there was a break to join a game of Reverse Charades that I didn't join). I won, though we were so delirious at that point, it might be an asterisk.
Innovation: Echoes of the Past - Kirby wanted to play the expansion, and kicked my tail in a two player game.

That was the event. Good times, and we raised over $2000!

Elder Sign I haven't played this since I bought the expansion, the week it was released! It was a once to twice a week before that I have no clue what, after I bought Elder Sign: Unseen Forces, caused me to quit playing this but I got in a game with a friend against Hastur and we had some of the luckiest (?) rolls ever and beat him in no time.

Sentinels of the Multiverse x1 - this game continues to grow on me, loads of fun!

Forbidden Island x2 - I got this as a free game for winning a Geekbay auction and since my copy is in the shipping channels I played one of the new guys to our gaming groups copy. I am unsure why this isn't THE goto family game (aside from us losing the first game before a single round was played!).

Battle for Moscow (second edition) x1 - I did a cheap B&W print and play for a while then this weekend did a full color on card stock print so I just had to play.

Carcassonne x1 - Quick game with my 7 years old son.

Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game x1 - This is the only game I have ever returned to the solo play after an initial playthrough to learn the game. It has one of the best solo experiences I have seen in a board game.

I did buy the expansions Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small – Even More Buildings Big and Small and King of Tokyo: Halloween and played neither of them this week end!shake
