I just got the reprint today and I was surprised to see that the wooden cubes were replaced with plastic cubes. Also the dice are just plain black now.

Weird, that's odd. I would think wood would be cheaper. You should post a pic in the gallery.

I wonder if they made that really small red text more readable in the 2nd printing?

That sucks.
The custom dice were nice.

On thing I didn't like about the wooden cubes is how they weren't the same color as the plastic unit/city pieces.

Are the plastic cubes' colors closer to the colors of the plastic unit/city pieces than the wooden cubes' colors were?

Glad I bought mine when I did then.

Adds another $20 or so to the cost but you could pick up a copy of the "Classic" Risk at Target and use the cubes from that. I've got two copies and the cubes have seen service in MANY games. Some of the best $$ I've spent gaming-wise.

Thanks for the pic!

I suppose these are ok and might be closer to the mini colors. Though there's something about wooden cubes that's cool.

Wonder what other stealth changes there are? The red text was an issue on the tech sheets. And I really wished the secondary ref card was done on chipboard like the main tech sheets.

And with the expansion, how much will mismatch with the first edition?

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

...plastic cubes? Seriously? yuk

That's something I associate with much lower-budget productions. This is a Big Game from a company that I normally associate with doing a much better job.

Plastic cubes look good to me. Not saying I prefer wood or plastic in general, but I think it plastic makes more aesthetic sense to me if you already have other colored plastic components.

And the big question on everyone's mind ...

... are the yellow dice oozing solvent at all?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who seeks out copies of Risk to get my fix for wooden cubes. I suppose one could buy the new retro reprints, or you could just go true retro and find old copies in thrift stores, etc.

Just got my copy. The plastic cubes aren't nearly as nice and the dice are small and cheap. This is definitely a downgrade. Blech.

Also, I can confirm that the colors don't match very well. The cubes are a different plastic than the figures.

Ya know, I did find a nice old copy at a thrift shop but couldn't bring myself to trash it for the cubes. The ones from Target on the other hand I had bought for the cubes and there was no remorse
