Homecoming was this past weekend at my son's high school.

Each class made floats for the parade, which are done mostly by tissue paper florettes being jammed into chicken wire and wood armatures.

They have been disassembled for materials to use next year.

Some jerk ignited one of the pieces in an art room.

He's 18 and will be tried as an adult.

Yep, at 18 I see no problem with trying him as an adult, he can drink, he can drove, you can bugger him (he's an adult).

Also what a twat, I take it he was just engaging it pointless vandalism?.

I have to confess that lighting a float on fire sounds like fun, but I'd be sure and do it outdoors.

I can find zero reasoning.

I doubt he was jealous of losing to another team's float in competition; the teams who work on the float tend to be the best behaved kids in the school.

I don't know the kids name yet, the news hasn't released it. I'm bound to know more about the jerk once my son gets home.

Seems to me likely it was then a case of sour grapes, "ohh look the swats won again, hey lets show em buckos".

Animal house made flesh.

Just got an email update from the district:

Police say the student is charged with arson in the 5th degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree.

I wonder what the sentence on that is.

The internet to the rescue.

Both are class A misdemeanors that carry a maximum sentence of 1 year. Obviously, it all depends on this kid's prior history and how lenient the judge/jury feels, so he/she could get off with fines and public service.

Pretty sure he's landed a nice suspension as well.

In the US, when you're eighteen you're apparently mature and responsible enough to be sent to a foreign country and possibly kill or be killed in service to your country, but you can't handle beer.

USA! USA!
I was not going to say it, but that thought had crossed my mind.

Well, they don't want you to drive and accidentally kill someone.

The killing has to be intentional.

He's looking real sharp in his 1940's fedora. He's got nerves of steel, an iron will, and several other metal-themed attributes. His fur is water tight and he's always up for a fight.

He's a semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action. He's a furry little flat-foot who'll never flinch from a fray. He's got more than just mad skills, he's got a beaver tail and a bill.

Lol

I always found the US minimum age levels funny...
Driving: as early as 14
Fucking: 18
Drinking: 21

But the the way you're putting it takes the cake!
