Ok, we've got the temporary file server up and running.

There are going to be some missing images while I try to retrieve the rest of the data from the crashed server. In the worst case scneario, we will lose some of these images.

I will work on this tonight, but am headed off to the Gathering of Friends tomorrow afternoon, so it may have to be something we live with for a few days.

Good job getting a solution in place, even if it's just a temporary fix!

Question... By "temporary server" do you mean that we shouldn't upload new files? I'm assuming this, but it's always better to ask.

Last time I checked - file upload was disabled. So a moot question really.

Do, or do not. There is no try.

Good luck. Still a great site! Thanks.

As Firepigeon said, it's on the right track ... have you tried gently poking it with a broom ..... worked on the Simpsons, and as we all know cartoons can teach us a lot about solving RL problems

Well, in that case I paint a couple of new servers on the wall and plug them into the network. That should work until Wile E. Coyote tries to use them, and they suddenly are just a wall again.

Don't feel bad about that one. I have a few of those around here (broken keyboards, that is). They absorb rage *so* well.

That could work but there's also nothing that can quite match some of the old school lessions. I'd suggest grabbing a roll of tape and pause for a moment while you look at the server. The flail your arms and legs around in a chaotic manner until you are completely engulfed in a cloud of dust. Once this happens simply step aside and let the dust settle. The result should be a server pretty much covered in tape and running smoothly once again.

Using ECC memory?
Just as a question, are you using ECC memory and an ECC aware motherboard? I'm getting conflicting opinions on it's real effectiveness.
