An Ancient Tome Has Been Unearthed

The guide has a detailed breakdown of just about everything in the game. It also has the names of all twelve investigators.

It's still on the boat. Speed it up captain!

My money is on it not hitting retail till the end of November, at the earliest.

Arkham Nights, and related area pre-release marketing tours, won't really be done till then.

I think FFG is reacting to complaints that their rulebooks are great for learning the game but are not good for looking up rules references.

It's pretty good. But it's not sufficiently cross-referenced and indexed. When I've used it it's not uncommon to find the term that I am looking for is not referenced where I think it should be - but under another subject instead. I think it's an improvement overall, but it's "good", not "great".

The reference guide is longer than the rulebook?!
Is this game that complicated?

No - it's streamlined. Into two rulebooks.

so the reference guide is not really usable as a player aid during game. it's more like an elaborated rule book / faq

I like it.

It handles the usual silly questions like:

"The Ancient One sheet chosen during setup determines the
Ancient One for the entire game."

There is always some rules lawyer out there arguing silly things like this, but if you put it in the rules you make the rules unreadable for learning the game. Putting the answers to the obvious in one place is nice for those that have to deal with such people.

Luckily I do not.

I was talking to the owner of a game store and he said that they used to have facilities in China and in Germany, but they had to shutter the German one.

That's why reprints can take such a long time, because bottlenecks are occurring at their China plant.

quite the reverse. Once you have the basic idea of the rules you will only need the ref guide during play. You will use it for the clarifications that you need during play. Or that's how I've been using it for the last dozen or so plays

Surprisingly quick to react. Only took them about..7 yeas?. Good thing they have loyal fans.

Seriously now, the reference sheet look really usable and normal. Good stuff.
