A new manga about board games has been published. It's called 放課後さいころ倶楽部 - Houkago Saikoro Kurabu [After School Dice Club]. This is all I could extrapolate from the japanese websites I've seen. Perhaps someone can help

Here is what I found:

My First thought was Isla Dorada:

but I don't remember the cards going on the board. This could be the source and then just modified for artistic reasons.

You probably stopped two entries too early in the Google top results. The following gives some insight into what the series is about:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&u=ht...(*)

It appears to be a nicely done Games magazine, where reviews/session reports are interwoven with a story plot geared at pupils/students (not sure about the target age bracket). Because of this, and because Marrakech is drawn very accurately in the first image, I strongly believe the game in the second image does exist and isn't simply 'inspired by' Isla Dorada or Seafarers of Catan (although http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=ja&tl=en&u=ht... seems to make that claim).

The image shows: A board with a map of islands with different landscapes, on which a number of locations (spaces) is connected by paths. On these spaces, there are: a number of black and brown cylinders (possibly stacked, but it looks like only one per space), and three sword fighter miniatures (one each in three different colors, most likely player pieces). A white d6 with a red 1 pip and black 2 and 4 pips. Four spaces for cross-shaped pawns (maybe danger counter), two of those pawns are on the board, two more next to the board. Seven spaces for round red/yellow checkered tokens, two on the board, five next to it (possibly a game rounds tracker). Two stacks of cards (either two draw piles or one draw pile and one discard pile) in the same tan/beige colors as cards in the hands of the players. One or two more stacks (possibly discard pile for hand cards, more likely an event card pile) of blueish cards. I'd guess that the goal is to immobilize the opponent sword fighters by blocking them with the black and brown pawns, as players only hold cards, and the black and brown pawns seem to be in a common supply.

, but with some practice you get used to it. As I don't speak Japanese beyond few random words like seppukku, jacuzzi or genpatsu - and I can't read the characters anyway - Google translate is better than nothing.

In french:
Quote:

And, translated by google, in english:
Quote:
The first five chapters are difficult to implement for the author. He often uses comedy tricks to boost the reader's interest and this unnatural dimension may discourage some . The context is also problematic , in my opinion. Board game in Japan is generally practiced by adults, and overwhelmingly male. Try to incorporate this hobby to the school life of girls is a good initiative but , as so often in manga for teenagers, there is a double standard : the first , rather unsavory but common in Japan , girls in high school are fantasies about legs and must satisfy the curiosity not satisfied young boys who read the manga, and the second , more interesting this time , the board game is an exciting leisure full of suspense and reflection.

Who is accustomed to reading manga, this double talk will almost unnoticed. The very positive point is the discovery of games that have made history in our hobby : start with Marrakech is a very good idea. The game is beautiful, exotic and strategic . The author is clearly aimed at the uninitiated and presentation pages written by the boss to come Sugorokuya more information , even if the work gives the impression of being a showcase for the brand.

Viz Media (the only US publisher with ties to Shogakukan, and likely to have access to this manga) is having a survey right now, with questions at the end asking for anime/manga licensing requests: http://bit.ly/F14AMs. I'd love to see this series come over in English so I just filled it out suggesting Houkago Saikoro Kurabu. Please do also if you feel the same

Hi there!

This manga still hasn't been licenced officially in English so the group Waterfalme Scanlations are working on getting it all online for you to read!

Chapter 1 of After School Dice Club is out now! You can read it here: http://bato.to/reader#910ccea28cd7076c or download it here: https://www.sendspace.com/file/428dr9

More chapters will be coming shortly. (There's only me translating and one other person typesetting it, so each chapter may take a while, but we're working as fast as we can!)

I hope you enjoy it ^^ There's no gaming in the first chapter but wait until chapter 3!! It's so good! I'll post on here when there's more.

So, did anyone manage to indentify that island game? Other games are rather well-known, but this one is still a mistery for me.

Thank you so much for translating this
.
I wish it could garner enough interest for a commercial release, but I guess it is too small a niche like so many of the other things I like.
