I'm another one of these people who are torn between Mercs and Infinity and if not for the shortage of coin I would simply purchase both.

One thought I had to Infinity was 'The board game approach', its often used in Collectable miniatures games where instead of just buying and collecting lots of figures you purchase a specific chosen handful for both sides and just use those as a set.
I know this approach limits what you get out of the system, but I'd like to do a simple and fast playing set.

I don't want to get overly complex with air drops and stuff (due to mostly just playing this with my wife who doesn't like it when things get overly complex), but want to include some anime staples and cool stuff we like, specifically:
- A bike or two (ALEPH character or Aragato's)
- a sniper for each
- maybe a TAG for each
- about 3 generic infantry and one or two specialist types
EDIT- Maybe a hacker each too
Looking at ALEPH and either Yu Jing or Pan Oc for the two factions.

Is this feasible? And if so, I don't suppose you could recommend forces based on the above?

Thanks for your help in advance!
-Pete

It's very much possible to play Infinity this way. In fact getting a few of the models you really like to learn the game with is the way to go I think. If you then find that what you have is enough for the foreseeable future there's no reason for you not to stop and just enjoy the game as is.

My feeling is that you will want to try some new tricks eventually, but playing a lot with a small collection of models will allow you to really learn them very well.

Air drop really is one of the least complex abilities in Infinity. Hacking and combat camouflage are both more tricky to learn (but a lot of fun!).

I'm not an expert on Aleph, but here's a 300 point list (the standard size) centered around the Posthuman and Myrmidon boxes. It's got a bit of everything but main tactic would probably be Penthesilea charging ahead with the Myrmidons at her heels while the Posthumans provids support. There is no TAG in it as ALEPH's only tag, the Marut, is quite expensive at 122 points, hoggin almost half the force total.

I'm a lot more familiar with Yu Jing, being my army of choice. The list below uses a Guija TAG at its core backed up with an Aragoto with a Spitfire. Two fast units that should be able to wreck some havoc at the opposing side. There's a hacker and an engineer there to try and protect the Guija and a camouflaged sniper for backup. I also throw a ninja in there as they can be very useful if utilized correctly.

Aragoto Spitfire (29|1.5)

These are just two forces I threw together off-hand but I think they should be fun to play, although both of them focus on a fast attack force. I've tried to keep the number of models needed to be bought and how they are packaged in mind.

Cheers mate, you rock!

I didn't mention making ease of purchase in my above post but it definitely helps a lot and goes a long way to my board game approach.

Always happy to help people get into Infinity. Feel free to post any follo up questions that might crop up.

There's quite a bit of Infinity content on my blog, including a few battle reports and an introduction to the game written for people coming from 40k.
