This will be a Veteran game in the High Rise, with the Structural Engineer available. No rule modifications of my own.

This has a reputation as a tough map, so it might be a good fit for more experienced players. As usual, sign up here with your preferred colour (I can do custom colours if you really want them): I'll wait 24 hours, and if there are more than six players priority goes to people who've played least recently.

OK, in the end the players are: lankyb, Putts, mattmill, jackbird, MilesF and Robman.

Here's the initial situation, with explosions marked.



Your goal, as usual, is to rescue seven Victims. Please now pick your roles and starting points, and decide where the Engine will go. Play order will be the same as signup order. If you go 24 hours without sending in orders or letting me know you'll be away, I'll take the turn for you.

These are the High Rise rule changes. Anything not mentioned is as in the standard game.

The Structural Engineer cannot Extinguish, but can Clear a hotspot for 1AP (it CAN re-enter play later) or Repair a damage marker from a partly-damaged wall for 2AP.

Pale blue walls (on the left side of the map) are thin, and take only one damage point to destroy. And therefore can't be repaired.

The thick black walls (surrounding the Elevators) cannot be damaged.

When an Elevator door is closed, the car is on the ground floor. When it's open, the car is on the office floor. Opening/closing the door (causing the Elevator to move) costs 2AP.

The Elevators cannot acquire hotspots, smoke or fire (other than in the short term from an explosion). But if the door is blown off (by an explosion), that Elevator will be out of use for the rest of the game.

A Victim in an Elevator with a closed door is in the lobby, and has been rescued. So has a Victim who is carried to any outside space.

You can move between any Engine Parking Space and the lobby (either Elevator with closed door) for 2AP.

You can move by ladder between the Engine and an Adjacent space inside the building, if the intervening wall has already been destroyed, for 2AP -- 4AP if carrying something.

Starting spaces are any outside space, or either Elevator.

If you get Knocked Down, you go to either Engine square.

How are we doing turn order? I'm fine with rolling for turn order or using the order listed.

How are we doing role selection? Other than not being the Driver/Operator, I don't have a strong preference for which character I am.

Turn order in the order I gave, i.e. signup order, unless anyone has really strong feelings about it. Role selection, sort out between yourselves. :-)

Well, the Hazmat is really close to the elevators. Perhaps I should be the Hazmat Tech and try to remove some on my 2nd turn, or I should be the Fire Captain so I can push someone close enough so he can remove it on his turn.

I'm debating on starting in the elevator (3,5) or outside (7,7) and focus on the fire in the southeast quadrant. Most likely 3,5. If someone takes HAZMAT specialist I recommend they too start in 3,5.

Okay, I'm definitely taking Structural Engineer then, starting at the (3,5) elevator. I'll get as many hotspots off of the board as I can, I just need the fires cleared out from around them. The south central room would be a good place to clear out quickly because there's also walls in there that I can repair.

Remember you can't get in or out through a wall without having the Engine parked below.

OK, I've now got roles for everyone except jackbird (could be D/O, Hazmat, Imaging or Rescue), and a definite location for Putts. (And my Extreme Danger/Dangerous Waters package has arrived.)

You might want to play after fire snuffers, not rescuers, because fire stops you from repairing.
