My son's latest favorite movie is Shaolin Soccer. Netflix has the original version with subtitles (apparently the american dub cuts out several scenes). He's supposed to be reading 20 minutes a night anyway so.....

Reading's reading, right?

Anyway, tonight he'll be reading "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" and this weekend we might read "The Kids from Shaolin".

If he likes Shaolin Soccer, I'd highly recommend Kung Fu Hustle, the next film by the same director.

To add to this...

CJ7 - Fun family movie. A bit slower and different from his other films, bu t still funny and entertaining.

The God of Cookery - Iron Chef style parody, with Shaolin Kung Fu of course! Possibly my second favorite Chow movie after Shaolin Soccer.

Love on Delivery - An even older production. Everyone looks so young in this one (he works with the same comedy group in his films). Lots of funny parts, but a bit mad-cap in terms of flow. I think he only directed and acted, but didn't write this one. You'll see a lot of his other movies in this one.

That was the first Stephen Chow movie I saw. It was on cable some afternoon.

At first I was like:

But then I was like:

My son has seen quite a bit of it but the opening murder scenes with the Ax Gang are a bit more realistic than what I'd prefer him to see.
