So you're sitting in a restaurant with your wife, (not one where you are wearing a tux and this may be frowned upon)You are waiting for your order and pull out a copy of ......... to play for ten or fifteen minutes while you wait. Wife enjoys it, you enjoy it, doesn't disturb fellow dinners, and doesn't take up much room. Maybe it can even be quickly put away to finish later after dinner, over coffee.

Any recommendations?

Depends on the restaurant. I'm imagining that if he's considering busting out any game at the restaurant, it's very laid back restaurant and probably pretty noisy already.

Yes, just something a step up from McDonald's.

Qwixx has been in my pocket at a fewer nicer restaurants. The key is simple: line the bottom of the lid with felt, roll into the lid. Softens the rolls, the side gives a bump (for more randomness), it's not too loud a game and doesn't disturb others.

And this is exactly why I think Zooloretto: The Dice Game is perfect for this situation. It has wooden dice that when rolled into the boxtop barely make any noise at all.

Yeah, or any restaurant that plays even the slightest bit of music, or has sports on, or has a bar, or a fun atmosphere, etc. etc.

Sushi Go! plays well in a restaurant, though you need to use a variant to make it work with 2.

Still, I have actually played it in a sushi restaurant, so I had to mention it. The server said, "Is that... a sushi game?" and walked away giggling.
