Minor monsters like the T-rex and the Giant are hit on a 6+ in close combat. Archers hit neighboring hexes on 5+ and units two hexes away on 6+. Neither of these attack types use the close combat table that conventional units use when attacking each other or when getting attacked by a monster.

SO...

Under what circumstances does the T-Rex's "half-strength on defense" penalty come into play? It's in the rules and on the counter... but I don't see when it matters.
