Not in the labor force. The BLS defines a person “[n]ot in the labor force” as age 16 and older who are not employed and not considered to be unemployed as they have not looked for work in the four weeks prior to the survey. largely comprised of several notable segments of the population, such as Students, elderly, homemakers, and the military.

Obama is the cause for the Babyboomers? Well, I guess he was a smooth dude.

My dad and mom just went on the chart this year now that they both turned 65.

They are really happy about it too.

The dumbest thing anyone can do, is to blame a single politician for the issues being faced globally.

They both are smiling a lot, which I can only equate as pools of pussy.

It's Obama's fault that they are being ALLOWED to retire, instead of BJ's obvious preference that everyone be worked until they collapse, beaten and broken, and can work no longer - at which point they will be converted into soylent green.

It's what the free market would want! But that Obama is letting the socialist concept of "retirement" take root, here, and preventing that.

Thanks, Obama! yuk

So, let's see. Growing population coincides with growing number of unemployed. Right? Are we also at historic percentages of unemployed? No? So basically this contributes virtually nothing of political or economic relevance. Awesome!

On the other hand, gas prices are quite low. But, Obama is in the white house so that's a yawner.

The stock market is quite high but, again Obama is in the white house so that's a non story.

Bin Laden still dead? Sure but Obama deserves zero credit cause anybody woulda ordered that that hit and it's the seal team guys that did the heavy lifting and everyone knows democrats don't support the military in any fashion anyway.

Drones taking out Al-Qaeda figures? Well yeah but, he's damn sloppy about it and we suddenly care about collateral damage in muslim countries. Besides, it's clearly just a clever way of concealing his muslim loving appeasement philosophy.

If only he were smart enough to bring back Bush era tax cuts...no wait, that really didn't change, did it? Closed Gitmo and let all those muslim radicals go...no, that didn't happen either.

Still, guys a Kenyan, pinko, gay loving, muslim hugging wannabe so all he does must be negative on principle.

Possible responses:

1. Unless that politician is named George Bush, right?!

2. Huh. Obama just blamed Angela Merkel last week. :what:
Ahh the "but what about George bush" defense.

Maybe more companies would be hiring this month if the Republicans didn't hold the economy hostage.

Good work, Steven. That explains the one month drop. I'm not so much concerned about the month to month numbers though as I am the overall trend of people leaving the workforce. You have to go back to when far fewer women worked outside the home to find this low of labor force participation. It could be a good thing if wages were climbing so one spouse didn't have to work outside the home. It could be a good thing if lots and lots of people are retiring and having sex like viagra-spiked bunnies much like Chapel's parents. It could also be a good thing if people are living their dream of becoming drifters like DarthX. It could also mean that more and more people go on disability and the economy really isn't generating enough jobs to support the amount of people we've got.
You are concerned about the rise in pensioner and students? There is a growing problem here, but whoa is the answer (and as you point out this have been ignored by successive presidents, became of the grey vote).

Do you support a rise in the retirement age, or just withholding pensions?

Insurance companies would probably be hiring if people could sign up for Obamacare successfully and send them their money.

In retrospect, the shutdown does seem even more stupid than it did at the time given how much traction you guys are getting from the enrollment problems.

I would say it looks even smarter than it did at the time. Republicans were trying to save people from this clusterfuck.

Your idea of how they were going to save us from a clusterfuck was to create a big clusterfuck of their own on an unrelated issue.

Yeah. Helpful.

The Democrats insisted on keeping this clusterfuck in place when we could have easily avoided both. Just imagine if Democrats had done the right thing last month and went along with the Republicans trying to avoid this problem. We could have avoided the shutdown AND the shitty implementation of a shittier law.

Why was it the right thing? Every government program has start up problems, does that mean throe should be no government programs? In fact software is notoriously difficult to get right (even when it's a commercial, and not government, project). Is Obamacare a very bad fudge, yes, so maybe they should not have had to fudge but actually been able to go for a working system (as other countries do). Maybe Republicans should have worker with the Obama administration to make this a better system, rather then just refusing to accept any of it.
