How hard would it be to convert Risk into Risk 2210? Think it would be worth the effort?

It's easier to convert Risk to a different theme entirely. Since it simulates just about anything but a world war. Keep the rules, change the theme.

My two favorite Risk conversion themes are:

1. The different colors are pandemic diseases that are sweeping the globe. Red is Scarlet Fever, Black is the Black Death, Yellow is the Yellow Fever, Blue is Manic Depression, Green is Terminal Motion Sickness and Purple is the Common Cold. Whichever color wins in the disease that wipes out humanity. This theme really works with the mechanics as they are more viral, than warfare-ish.

2. Just as deadly to humanity as the above disease theme is this: absolute schools of thought. Red is religious zealotry. Blue is apathy. Black is chemical solution dependence. Green is environment worshippers. Yellow is techno-salvation. Purple is single-racial superiority. Whichever color wins is the school of thought that everyone accepts and settles down with.

This is so funny because when I was "into" Risk in high school some uh ... thirty years ago ... I didn't really like the idea of world war and killing everyone on the planet, so we used to "pretend" the theme was about ideologies too. Only typically it was communism, capitalism and black power (since I always played starting in Chad).

What about the Land of Oz? Split the board into the four countries of Oz: Munchkin, Gillikin, Quadling, and Winkie.

Make it a 4-person affair, but also add two additional factions: Evvian Invaders (Ev is another country in the same continent) and Nome Forces.

And the colors:

* Munchkin - Blue
* Gillikin - Purple
* Quadling - Red
* Winkie - Yellow
* Evvian Invaders - Brown
* Nome Forces - Black
