I have many of the games that I play with regularly, however most of them are 90-180 minutes game play. I'm realizing I should get some shorter filler-type games. I've played a few that I may consider (Biblios being one) but really haven't played that much. My favorite games are Hansa Teutonica, Agricola, Tzolk'in and Puerto Rico.

What would you suggest as fast paced, easy-to-learn filler games?

I recommend King of Tokyo, Love Letter, Bohnanza, and Get Bit!

All play quickly, are easy to teach, and a lot of fun to play.

That Biblios you already mentioned is a good start.

You may want to consider TransAmerica, or Blokus, or Can't Stop, or Hey, That's My Fish!, or Liar's Dice, or Love Letter.

All of those are in the half-hour or less class.

Some of my favorites in the 45-60 minute range are Ra, or Zooloretto, or Mississippi Queen, or Yspahan.

Or there is always Crokinole.

Guillotine and Lost Cities are both games that my wife and I enjoy when we are looking for something light and quick. Often play one of those games during my lunch break.

Coup is fantastic if you like bluffing.

Piece o' Cake is wonderfully able to cram interesting and meaningful decisions into a 20 minute game.

If you want a step down from from 1-2 hr games, the next step down is not necessarily "filler" (although fillers are always great to have).

You may want to consider some card games and/or tableau-builders and/or lighter-weight games. Troyes, Finca, Race for the Galaxy, Taluva, Tournay, Omen: A Reign of War, Neuroshima Hex!, Cosmic Encounter, and Battle Line (just to name a...*ahem* few) are all 30-60 minute playtimes (in my experience, ymmv) yet I would not consider any of those games "filler".

Parade, The Bottle Imp, and No Thanks! are three actual "fillers" I recommend.

Have you considered Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small ? Since you like the original, this one might interest you.

As a shorter game I also enjoy Jaipur and Oregon

This is a category I have recently been expanding, as I've been playing more games with family and non-gamer friends. Here are some of our favorites:

Witch's Brew - Great action selection game with lots of bluffing, highly interactive, and the amulets expansion (which you don't really need to buy because generic counters do the job just as well) makes it a bit more strategic. Hard to come by, though. I stopped looking at the $100 copies and just made a PnP.

Dominant Species: The Card Game - This one really took me by surprise, and I have to say that it is seriously under-rated. Interactive, confrontational, and lots of difficult decisions to make. I add in the promo cards and then remove all the event cards that apply to only one type of animal. Gives it just the right number of cards and they are always useful.

Haggis - Great ladder style card game for two or three players. Plays quickly and yet doesn't feel like a "light" game. Best with three, but fine with two as well. Biblios is great, but Haggis is a more satisfying experience, for me at least.

I'd say the same thing about Battle Line over Lost Cities, too.

Bohnanza - An incredibly simple game, but interactive and loads of fun. I bought the expansions for the game, but ended up getting rid of them, because the base game is that good. You have to trade to do well, so it gets everyone talking, laughing and having a good time.

Innovation - If you want to keep it short I'd only pull this out as a two player game, otherwise AP will make it drag out too long. But as a two-player game it really shines. Feels like a brain-burner but plays in less than an hour.

Good luck expanding your collection!

7 Wonders is a 30-45 minutes medium weight game with little downtime.

There's also games you can play any number of rounds, like Dixit.

Academy Games' 1775: Revolution and 1812. Quick-playing, interesting dice, historical aspects, and random turn order make for really fun light wargames.

I don't like games, whether filler length or longer, where I say, "Is that all there is?" So my suggestions are for games that are easy to learn but have some meat to them.

Saint Petersburg
Finca
Glory to Rome
San Juan

and a couple of 2-player games

Aton
Roma or Arena: Roma II

For "fillers" +1 to Battleline. Also, I'm a huge fan of For Sale.

Race for the Galaxy is wonderful and plays very quickly. Ginkgopolis is an amazingly good (and seemingly forgotten after a strong debut last year) game that plays in under an hour for 2 or 3, slightly over for 4 (it will play with 5, but is not as good).

Dominion is also an easy recommendation.

China is a great game that plays in about an hour (or less if the players are experienced).

A game I just recently picked up that I think might be "right up your alley" is Cambria. It's a real quick and simple area control game that plays in 20 minutes but has some real strategy. And it's only $8 at Miniature Market right now.

http://www.miniaturemarket.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=cambr...

I've got it in my box-o-games and we can try it out some Wednesday if you want.

Another one along those lines is "8 minute empire".

Coloretto is always good too. It's a tiny playing card deck sized box, is fast, cheap and lots of fun.
