I would have bet against it. Really. Bigger than the War of the Rings CE box? No frigging way!

I would have been wrong.

Apologies if this comparison has been made already and I'm wasting precious ones and zeros. I did a quick check and didn't see this particular matchup, so I figured I'd toss it up there.

Reaction from my wife: "Steve Jackson? He makes a lot of games we like. Good."

This is a big, big, big damned box.

We said it's a big game. We were serious.

I've seen a couple bigger games over the years. Someone's giant WW2 game and someone's giant Napoleonics game. They were big, they were impressive, they were forgettable, they're gone. I don't even remember the names. I'm sure they didn't make 12,000 copies.

Ogre is the biggest game that has positive attributes other than "really big". It's certainly the largest game that had such a large print run.

How big is Car Wars going to be? Has anyone said? Have the folks in Austin "learned their lessson" and will they shy away from mega games or have they "tasted blood" and now all their games will weigh 25 lbs? Time will tell.

I think Phil's going to be skittish. "One of the most important things we learned from making a 28 lb game was to /never/ make a 28 lb game."

They were very clear that this was a once-in-thirty-years thing, so I'm sure Car Wars will be more reasonable, even sane.

I'd like to see a $30 retail price and realistic pricing that leaves important things like profit and allows Car Wars to be a complete line and not a one-shot.

That seems wise.

I would love another experience like Ogre, but since that's the financial equivalent of SJ Games handing me money I guess I can't expect it too often.

I hope the KS extras for Car Wars will be as much fun.

For those despairing about the size of the box I bought two plastic containers that hold the game very handsomely and easily stack on top of most 1 ft deep shelves.

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

I had heard that Ogre was larger than WotR:CE but weighed less (since the other is made out of wood) somewhere.

Nice to see photographic evidence of the size difference though. Have you weighed them?

The weights listed on the versions here at BGG show WotR:CE coming in at a "mere" 19 pounds.

I was planning on moving it into a couple of small Plano's, to save shelf space.

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!
