Any good dinosaur themed board games out there. I've never shopped for games based on theme but my 8 year old loves dinosaurs and I thought it would be fun to have a dinosaur themed game to play. He plays games like settlers and Agricola with my wife and I. He needs help with strategy sometimes but the mechanics he has down.

Any suggestions are appreciated-Dan

+1 for Evo (second edition). It will be great for his age.

And if he's still into dinosaurs in several years:

Sure there are, they're called Avians.

There are also the Jurassic park games that were ok, I own this one:

Plays alright and best part has cool dinosaur models.

Trias is a neat game that you might consider.

The rulebook isn't great and the drifting aspect can be kind of fiddly. Plan on a sample game the first time through until you get the mechanics down.

Jurassic Park III Island Survival Game is fun; one player play the dinos, the others play team of survivors who try to get out of dinosaurs island (Isla Sorma) to get to safety on a beach.
The pace is quick and just challenging enough for kids - my brother in-law love it as well wehn we pop out this one.

Should be fairly easy to find used at the thriftstore - that's where I got mine

This is true. But it's funny because every time I glance at the cover, my brain sees a dinosaur until I look closer. I think the bird and the crocodile somehow converge to become a dinosaur in my mind.

As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky, the three travellers, men of Willowdale, emerge from the forest's shadow. Fording the river, they turn south, journeying into the dark and forbidding lands of The Necromancer...

Dinosaurs are central to Tyranno Ex, but 8 year old children are definitely NOT the target audience.

There is a game I have that has players growing tribes of cavemen and avoiding dinos. It comes with actual dino model toys that it suggests letting the youngins control. I can't find it in the database. I'll post it later tonight.

Evo feels a lot like Small World.

For a really fun game, their is the old Avalon Hill game Dinosaurs of the Lost World.

It's a roll and move on the board, but than you break away to a comic book like booklet to have different adventures. There are items to manage and cards to help influence movement.

Look no further than Triassic Terror. Not only is it about dinosaurs, it even has plastic dino toys to represent some pieces. It also seems to be an excellent area control game which I am itching to get my hands on!

However this is a MEAN game and is probably too much for an 8 year old.

Probably not. But if he can play agricola, this should be no problem, it's easier than that definitely.

Hey, what about Uchronia?

Based on my knowledge, I think Evo (second edition) is likely to be the perfect choice.

Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs is an old game, long out of print, but I think you can normally pick it up pretty cheap. I absolutely loved this when I was a kid.

Hey! i know its been awhile since the post, but i was reading the list and nobody put "Jurassic Park: the lost world" board game. Its super fun, easy to pick up, got some decent miniatures and the board has 3d elements.

Its out of print but not too hard to find and pretty fair pricing for the amount i play it.

9/10
