So in the last few weeks I've been going to my local shop, and while attendance is low there are three people who show up regularly: myself, a longtime Magic player who is generally up for anything, and his girlfriend who is just getting into gaming.

Here's what we've played in the past few weeks:

Forbidden Desert-Hit
Castellon-Semi-hit
Hey! That's my fish!-Big hit
Kingdom Builder-HUGE miss
Mansions of Madness-Semi-hit
7 Wonders-Semi-hit
Firefly-Semi-miss
Timelines-Hit
Cube Quest-HUGE hit

the shop has a pretty good library of the more popular games (Dominion, Ticket to Ride, etc), so I'm looking for something along those lines.

ty all.

I guess the question would be what does the shop have that you know how to play?

3 Easy to learn games that are fun and have some strategy to them are:
Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game
Quarriors!
King of Tokyo

So it seems that they like games that are really simple that don't have a lot going on and can be played quickly. Dominion would probably gell well with the Magic player, since he can build his deck as he goes and get awesome combos. Another great game would be Pandemic, it's quick, easy to teach, is semi-deep without being overly convoluted, and can be a real nail-biter near the end. Plays great with 3 players. Lastly, if they want a fun quick combat game you could go with Nexus Ops. It's easy to teach as well and has good strategy without having too much going on.

I'll second King of Tokyo as well. Amazing game with the Power UP expansion.

I think King of Tokyo is a really good suggestion.

I am also considering Love Letter.

And I think the Magic player's favorite game is Dominion, but he tried playing it with her and it was too much ruleswise (this is also why Firefly failed)

thanks for the suggestions all.

I played my first game of Love Letter last night. I brought it with me when my wife and I went to the bar. It was surprisingly fun. Then again, maybe it was the alcohol…shake

7 wonders with 3 is good because of focused interaction, with more players the interaction tends to spread out.
