why aren't mounted archers (MA) and mixed missile (MM) units considered to be "light" units with a green box around their move allowances on the counters? MA are basically light cavalry (LC) with bows (page 2 of rules even refers to them as "light") and MM are pretty much just missile armed light infantry (LI).
when i play, i consider them both to be light units and even give MM units a +1 missile defense just like LI. is there any reason i shouldn't be doing this that i haven't considered?

Andy,

MM units are not considered Light because LI units have some abilities that MM don't. You can treat them as "light" if you want. This is a carry over from the original game. MA are considered "light."

A wolf and a penguin could never live together, nor could a camel and a hippopotamus. That would be absurd.

And the older you get, the fewer things you really love. And by the time you get to my age, maybe it's only one or two things. With me, I think it's one.

So should MA have a green box around their movement allowance then?

thanks for the reply Mike. i've enjoyed this game system for ages. it did evolve from the old SPI "prestags" games didnt it (although a different scale), before it was redone by 3W? i figured the MM units were basically the old skirmishers (SK) units, even "lighter" than LI.

Ben,

They should. Sorry for the oversight.

Andy,

Not really. The system grew out of the original Ancients with advanced concepts that Bill Banks was considering but never implemented, plus a dose of insanity from yours truly.
