Does the constitution check required of a player who fails a combat check against the diseased rats count as non-combat for purpose of playing blessings? I played that it did, since it's more a consequence of combat than actual combat itself.

That's how I've been running it myself: combat checks are checks in the actual combat, including 'use X stat instead of strength for combat', whereas the text on the card isn't during the actual combat.

It's not a combat check unless it says combat. Even an actual check to defeat is only a combat check if it says it is. Most are, but not all.
