Since I know a lot of folks here like to use Plano boxes for bits, I thought this was worthy of a "Hot Deal" post.

Dick's Sporting Goods has Plano brand boxes (including the 3500 and 3600) marked down by a couple of dollars, and then on sale 50% off from that.

Even better, they also are clearancing out "Field and Stream" brand boxes (which may be their store brand, I'm not sure). I picked up a 3-pack of tackle boxes which are almost identical to the Plano 3600 for $1.97, which is ludicrous. It worked great for Le Havre, and would probably be good for just about any of those size game boxes aside from Agricola, which has too many cards.

I will say the Field and Stream boxes have the brand name stamped in gold on the top, whereas the Plano is non-descript. But I personally don't care too much about that.

Your mileage may vary on this, I went to three different Dick's and found one with a huge selection of Plano boxes, another with the Field and Stream, and a third with nothing of interest.

I use a Plano 3620 to store all of the little bits of Mage Knight and it is awesome. Totally worth the money. If it will fit in the game box these are awesome for any game with fiddly bits.

This must be an in-store deal. Amazon just about always has these as an "add-on" item for around $5 for those of us not near a store.

Do you have the Mage Knight expansions as well? I've been looking for a good storage solution that will hold everything released so far.

Yeah, I stuff the base game, Krang, and The Lost Legion all in one Plano 3620. I only play solo and have small fingers so it works great for me. I keep even the mana tokens in it while I play and just get stuff out as needed.

Here's a link:

Look for the "add on item" listing on the right for the dirt cheap price.

I also use these tuck boxes:

I actually have a fair amount of free space with this system.

I use a 3600 for Descent 2.0. I also use a 23630 box for miniature paints, it is a bigger box and deeper. Reaper and Vallejo bottles stand up perfectly in them. If anyone spots those they are very useful as well, as a storage or travel case. I will be checking out the couple stores around me today. Thanks for the tip.

EDIT: I hit my local store while I was out shopping and everything was at full price.

I should have linked this in the original post, but for those interested, here is a massive geeklist of what Planos work for what games, and how to structure them in some cases:

O Plano boxes, how do I love thee?

It's a great resource. Sometimes you can work with what you get (for example, I used the 3600 clone for Le Havre and it works fine), but other times it can be a life-saver. *coughagricolacough*

Plano boxes are regular price at the Sterling, VA location. Not a very large selection and I didn't see any Field and Stream brand.

Out of stock when I looked at the add on item.

Man, sorry to hear that you guys aren't having the same luck I did. I knew the Field and Stream ones might not be around, but figured the rest of the Planos would be for sure.

Just to clarify, the ones I saw had a red sticker on the peg hooks (indicating a lower price than their usual price), and then they rang up at 50% off that price at the register. Not sure if you guys did a price check or what.

If it's really just this area, then I'm really sorry to lead you all on a wild goose chase.

No worries. We appreciate the heads up

No red tags where I looked. I requested a price check on a model 3600 and it rang up $4.79 as marked. I asked the cashier if he knew of any sales on Plano and he radio'd another guy. They didn't know of any current sales.

It was worth a shot!

No deals at my local Dick's either, but there was a pretty good clearance sale going on, if you're into athletic clothing. (Some nice super hero hats and Under Armour workout shirts. I can't wait to show up to kickboxing in my Superman shirt).

How do you have your tiles set up in the game box with this inside? I have the exact same plano box, but it's bigger than I expected, and fitting the tiles appeared to be an issue. I really need to pull it all back out and check again though.

I rubber band them into two piles. They fit easily on top of the Plano.

fwiw, Michael's has bead boxes, and you can use their 40% off coupons with them. It's not a problem with boardgames, but if you have painted miniatures, I recommend the 17-compartment Darci's bead boxes to store and stack your human-sized mini's.

Unfortunately this is not the case in the Detroit area. Still got a 3 pack of great boxes there for $10, but not the awesome $2 per box.

That would work! Going to organize my stuff later today using the photo you linked as a template. I just need to find a way to make all the sleeved cards fit.
