We here at CMG love to honor the folks who make things happen around here.

One way to do this is via our Credits Page in the Rulebook, but...

There are other ways, such as...

Naming things in the game after "Real People".

(buildings, streets, etc.)

or...

By placing real names into the cards in various thematic ways.

That is something we were able to do with The Heat, and now again with the 2nd Edition of the basegame.

Most of the people we honor in this way are backers

This process is happening during and in conjunction with our Kickstarter campaign which will be running until late this month.

(Edit - See UPDATE below)

You can see the growing list below...

The REAL PEOPLE behind The 2nd Edition:

Let's start with the Event Cards, which definitely do offer opportunities in this area. Note that if you see your name listed below is means that we (CMG) are going to try our best to put your name on the associated card. There are times where this is not possible or just doesn't make good sense for some reason. In which case we will try to move you over to another card if at all possible. Note that, regardless of the status designation listed below for your card, you are likely to be good-to-go for this, but if you see a status designation of "Done" then you even more likely to be on the card ultimately (we just wish to urge some caution and consider nothing to be 100% until the cards are published and in circulation. i.e. - 99.9% is not 100%).

OK, here goes...

POSSIBLE NEW CARD OPPORTUNITIES:

We know for sure that there will be at least one new Event Card being added to the mix in conjunction with this print-run. It's the Naked Man Card, but...

We do NOT yet know if this will be an Emergency Card or a Special Event, thus we are not sure if this card offers an opportunity for anyone's name to be added.

Furthermore, there are other cards that may be added, but once again, we don't know (yet) if they will be cards that can have a name placed on them (for the same reason as Naked Man).

Nonetheless we will list them here in hopes of being able to add names in the end. They will be listed as Incident Reports as follows...

??????? & ???????
CARD: Naked Man
Playing the Role of "Clerk" is -- ????? (Josh?)
Playing the Role of "Reported By" is -- ?????

Sir Richard & Scott Brunow
CARD: Annual Budget
Playing the Role of "City Manager" is -- R. Launius
Playing the Role of "Memo Recipient" is -- Lt. S. Brunow, CPD
Made Possible by: Richard's Design and Scott's years of service in SWAT and then The Bomb Squad - recommended for this roll by "The Chief" himself!
Status: Done

btw - this is what a typical 2nd Edition style card looks like...

(fyi - this card shown here is actually from Rioting Gangs)

FILLING IN THE QUESTION MARKS:

some of the cards listed above have question marks listed instead of actual names. During the deck assemblage phase, we will likely toss random made-up names into the deck to replace question marks, and then go back and change the names as we figure out who will go where. The following is a list of possible names (listed generally in order of priority with highest at the top) for taking the place of the question marks...

Hockey Mask (who is David Gilles)
G. Lim
Doug LaVigne
"Lord" (who is Charles Polenzani BUT for his role in the game Charles will go by by his middle name which is Vic, and he will appear as V. Polenzani or Vic Polenzani)
Malte (Malte Kühle)
Chris Dickinson
J. Jones
Other names posted to this thread on or after 6/28/14 (see below)

MORE:

In addition to the Event Deck, there may be other opportunities to get YOUR name into the game. For example...

Toe Tag
This may sound too morbid for the average bear, but...
We may put a Logo on top of all the buildings on the board (except for Apartments and warehouses), and the logo for the Morgue might be a toe tag, and we might put a real name on it, and it...
Could be YOURS!

Face on a Character Card
We are not sure yet how we will be handling the Character Cards for the 2nd Edition, but...
It is likely that we will follow the Robinson Crusoe model as has been suggested recently and put a male version of a character on one side of the card and a female on the other. If we do this, then we need 8 new faces for those cards.
Why not have those faces be real people?
Some of you might already know that we did this with one of the characters in the 1st Edition. It was SWAT Commander Kirkland. He is based off the real-life cop Bart Brunscheen (well known in the gaming world as "The Chief"). We wanted to honor him, his profession by doing this.
If we do move in this exact direction, we need 8 new pieces of art from George or Marco (likely George so that the styles are the same on both sides).
Some or all of those could be based-on/inspired-by real people, and maybe even...
YOU!
The following is a list of Folks who are in-line for this sort of treatment:
1. Rob Searing [c] (The wizard of DT)
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
More about this:
PECKING ORDER
Yes, there is meant to be a bit of a pecking order to this list. Those listed higher (1,2,3, etc.) have a higher chance of being used in this process than the lower numbers (5,6,7, etc). No one on this list is guaranteed of anything (not to mention that we may not go in this direction anyway). A lot will go into the final decisions about how this is handled. Some of it may involve racial issues (see below). That said, anyone who's name is listed above will likely get the opportunity to have their image on a Character Card.
FIRST NAME
Note that part of this would might involve using the first name of the actual person. Meaning the person who's image is being used to inspire the art. Though we might just change the name to the most similar possible. For example, if Lieutenant Denise Sears has a male version on the back side, and let's say it was a likeness of Rob Searing, then we could name this character either Dennis Sears, OR Rob Sears (funny how similar the last names are).
Another option is to simply use an initial for the first name.
SIGNATURES
As for the signatures, we could either create a new one for the new face/name or remove that section altogether as was done in The Heat.
RACE
I'm both sad and proud to be bringing this up, but we need to look at and talk about the character's racial backgrounds. Sad because we are potentially going to restrict who's images we use for this (I don't look forward to telling someone that we can't use their image due to their racial profile). Proud because it should be done, and we're happy to be playing a proactive role in the process. Currently half the characters are white males. Of the rest, one is a white female and others are either minorities or BOTH a minority AND a female. After go through this process the balance of male to female will be exactly even, and ideally we also want the racial mix to be even (or close to it). This means that we have a target of 5 minorities with only 3 Caucasians in the mix. All things considered, it is likely that the following statement is accurate: The most common type of person who plays games like Police Precinct is a white Male. With this in mind, it will be most common for a white male to request to have their image on a character card. Whereas, we really need female minorities. Will we get them? Is now the time to get to the point of exact balance in this area? These are excellent questions. It might make more sense to try to reach this balance when we come out with new characters, which we plan to do in Season II. The worry is that trying to do this now might feel forced. It might flow better with NEW characters that have NEW names, etc. Tough to say! There's sure a lot to think about on this one!
In order to track the racial background of the folks who have expressed an interest in being a part of this, we have noted next to their name (above) what race they are, as follows:
[am] African American
[h] Hispanic
[a] Asian
[na] Native American
[pi] Pacific Islander
[c] Caucasian
[o] Other (to be specified on a case-by-case basis)
(this list is off the top of my head, hope I didn't forget one, if so we can add it later)
BACKGROUND STORIES
We plan to have background stories for the characters listed on our website, and to have QR codes on each card that take you directly to the character page (not the home page as they do now). So, when we have a male and a female version, how do we handle this part of it? We're leaning toward referring to them as "Lieutenant Sears" instead of "Lieutenant Denise Sears" and then the background story could fit BOTH sides of the character card. Doing otherwise just sounds too confusing.
Lots of options here!

Thanks!

Stay Tuned!

UPDATE:

I think it would be best to handle this whole thing AFTER the Kickstarter campaign is over. It will make it a lot more simple for all concerned.

Meaning there will be an opportunity to do this...

YES!

But there will not be a Pledge Level added that is just for this.

Details to follow in February.

By the way, one place to track this and other "Post Kickstarter" items is here...

UPDATE:

We are sending everyone listed above (prior to this post) a message today about this matter.

So, if you fall into that category (are expecting to get your name on a card) and did not see anything yet (today), maybe wait one more hour (still sending), then check your junk folder, and if nothing...

Contact us because your message must have disappeared somewhere into the Cyber black hole.

We want to touch base one last time with everyone before we finalize everything.

Thanks!

I think we spent our Saturday mornings the same way.

Which was back in a time when if you missed the shows for the week, you missed them, end of story.

No streaming Netflix, Comcast On demand, DVR, or even VHS/Beta, just...
