The working title of the game is: S-Type Ventures. However, it's not really sticking and I'm looking for other ideas. The theme of the game is that players are mining an asteroid and racing to collect the most resources. The resources collected are: Iron, Cobalt, and Platinum

I picture the players as competing corporations or mining companies and am looking for a name that might reflect that. Here are some words I'm working with: harvest, reaper, Orion, Kuiper, belt, asteroid, mining, miners, blackrock, darkrock, industries, incorporated, gold rush and others. I'm open to giving it a western/farming/ranching name or something related to pioneering.

Here are a few I'm toying with:

"MINE!"

This kind of captures the whole corporate greed thing and also the mining theme.

I voted for a couple of those, but I can't say I love any of them.

You seem overly focused on cowboy references (cowboy, roundup, rodeo). There's nothing in your description that has anything to do with cowboys, so unless you've failed to mention something in your game, I think you should immediately drop those choices. (I would much rather the game not really promise anything about the theme that promise something that isn't there.)

None of your suggested titles mention miners or mining. "Galactic Gold Rush" comes closest, and you'll see that (at least as I'm writing this) it has 100% approval. I tried to think of a word having to do with outer space that starts with M, but didn't come up with one (in 20 seconds of thinking). You might try that route.

Alliterative would be better, but I like "Deep Space Miners" and "Asteroid, Mine." (The latter is intentionally a play on words, intending to evoke the movie, "Enemy, Mine" and therefore using two different meanings of the word.

I wish "Blasteroids" was possible without also conjuring the image of a dark arcade in the 80's.

Blackrock makes me think of World of Warcraft, but that's because I quit playing it back when Blackrock was an important place to go. I understand that it isn't, anymore.

I don't hate 'Frontier,' but it still connects more to cowboys than to miners, in my (possibly messed up) head.

Exactly!

I think it fits your description perfectly.

"The theme of the game is that players are mining an asteroid and *racing to collect the most resources.*"

Good points. I wonder if "Darkrock Frontier" would be better...

Blackrock has been used in a number of other things and I was originally toying with the name "Darkstar," but that has been used also.

Frontier does conjure a western image, but space is the final "frontier" so that could still work.

Your google power will be weak if you use the word blackrock. They already exist.

Yeah, I saw that when searching earlier. Blackrock is a pretty common name and there is a boardgame with that name already. It could work if combined with something else, but it's not the highest contender at the moment.

I was surprised by that too. Most of those names were just possible examples and that one is far from my favorite. The alliteration is over the top and while it describes the mood of the game, the resources are not actually gold.

hmmmmm....

To a point, but it evokes both 2001 and the gold rush of 1849. I'd toss it a tag line for locale or mood like:
2049 - Juno Station
(Juno being the second largest S-tpe asteroid, the largest Eunomia, sounds diseased)

2049 - A mining odyssey
