Hi. So, I've not played yet. I like to get everything I think I need first.
I'm ONLY PLAYING SOLITAIRE, and I mean, I don't mind playing multiple characters, just won't have a live opponent.
I HAVE the BASE set.
I want to add at least one expansion. But I like bits from different.
HERE is what I like, can someone suggest a way to get the most out of this FOR SOMEONE ON A BUDGET ?
*BASE Set Characters, decent events (from what I read), Combo/Merc Cards
*MERC set Skills, Weapon Events & 71 Cards for 3 Mansions ! (seems to be the biggest way to add variety)
*PARTNER mode from Alliance. I heard it can be broken, but I like the idea of having a teammate, especially for a Solo Player.
-I ruled out Outbreak because the main feature, Infection and playing as an infected means nothing in Solo.
-I see no benefit to Nightmare.
-The only good thing about Alliance being the Partner mode
-If Only I had bought MERCS first and found the Premiere Character cards on their own...... too late now.
I THINK the best would have been MERC base + Premiere Characters, and figure out how to add PArtners.
IS it still worth getting MERCs and "effectively" still use Premiere (even though all the gear was upgraded)?
Are there specific cards a person can get from Alliance to add Partner mode and events to that ?
ANY HELP is appreciated
(if anyone had something to sell to move this along, that is also appreciated)
--PS-- is the only advantage of Premier over MERCS set the Characters in Premiere?
--PS2-- can Mercs be completely added to Premiere as an expansion ? I mean, when either rule book calls for a setup, can all still be mixed?

What!? I finally get my very own video game, but it's a mobile game?!
Resident Evil Deck Building Game: Mercenaries and Resident Evil Deck Building Game: Nightmare are my two favorite sets of the 5, but they all have their merits.
For Partner mode, you don't need Alliance. There aren't any special pieces that let you do Partner mode, it's just a set of rules that work for any set.
As for playing solo, there are some solo variants out there, such as the Solo play robot by Philip Hartten:
Check around in the "Variant" forums for each set (you'll probably find the most in the Resident Evil Deck Building Game variant forum) and you'll find other solo modes.
Here are a couple:
Also, I created a variant that could work well for solo mode (I played it a bunch of times solo just to test out the mechanics of my game mode and really enjoyed it).
What's different about my variant "Escalation" is the monsters hunt you. If you aren't prepared in time to defeat them, they can attack and damage/kill you even if you're not exploring.
Partner Mode. I thought there were special weapon actions, event cards etc... for partner mode?
Thanks Ryan !
ps-- been checking out your variant, looks like the kind of play I would like. I'll have to print this out !

As somebody who's just played Mercs, let me comment on that briefly.
There are several weapons and enemies in Mercs that were explicitly designed to support player interaction. For instance, there's a shotgun that, when used to kill an enemy, lets you move unwanted cards out of your discard pile into an opponent's discard pile. This makes solo play using these cards a little awkward, though you could always weed them out.
The rules for Skills/XP reward you for exploring early and often, even if you can't kill the enemies, which interferes a bit with solitaire rules based on the constraint that you must explore every turn.
Based on my research, I would say that Outbreak looks like it adds the most for solo play thanks to its Infection rules. However, you need a base set first. Although I can't compare the two, I would get Premiere, just because of the things I mentioned above in relation to Mercs.
