We have user galleries as a way to post images that perhaps don't fit on a specific game page. Could we also allow files to be posted to the user profile, for things that may be useful to have access to thru BGG, but don't really belong on a specific game page?

That is a logical and useful idea, but I think there is an area for that already, Miscellaneous Game Accessory.

Part of the difference between images and files are the necessity to screen for viruses and other harmful items to BGG and it's users. Unlike images, which are Geek Modded, file uploads are reviewed by specific admins on the site before approval. An unregulated file upload source could unintentionally turn BGG into a free cloud hosting site, such as rapidshare.com or dropbox.com, and/or even a host for pirated software and media, placing an unreasonable load on the servers and degrading performance.

If you don't already have Dropbox, you can get a basic account for free, and you can share files with just a link (your recipient doesn't need a Dropbox account or anything).

Aldie's responses to this suggestion on the previous thread on this topic:

How about adding a personal files section (like we have for photos)?

I've thought about it - but we aren't set up to be a file sharing site.

DropBox gives you 2GB for free and you can have public shares - http://db.tt/qWbA63x

(That's my affiliate code, if you sign up we both get some extra free space)
