So, as many of you know, the recent Kickstarter Stretch goal #2 has forced CMG to have a 2-sided board in the 2nd Edition.

Don't worry, it's no hardship, we think this is going to be fun to do and great for the fans, so...

Thanks backers for forcing our hand on that one.

OK, since there will be a "B-Side", we have to start wondering...

What will the "B" be?

Good question!

No final decisions have been made, but...

Likely it will be a different layout.

This approach would offer fans of the game MORE replayability and...

FUN!

And...

Yes we are working on figuring out how to make this new board available to 1st Edition folks.

Stay tuned on that.

So, to sum it up, the most likely outcome of the new board will be...

A-side = Old Layout with a new look (Katie is working on this now).

and...

B-Side = New Layout with also with a new look (Ole is working on the layout part of this now).

THIS THREAD

The purpose of this thread is to examine closely the Layout of the B-Side.

Nothing else!

Just that.

THE OTHER THREAD

The whole discussion of "The New Look" shall continue on the other thread known as...

The Big Discussion about The Big BOARD!

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1079292/the-big-discussion-a...

If you have not been to that thread yet, you will possibly be overwhelmed by the size of it (currently 8 pages long).

It does a nice job of carrying you through from the beginning (talking mostly about options for how a 2 sided board might be handled) up to...

The present (which is primarily about the evolution of "The New Look").

So...

If you want to hear more about the Layout of the B-Side, you've come to the right place.

We are excited to say that...

Ole Steiness, the designer of Police Precinct, has been busy working on a new layout for the B-Side, and we have an image to show you.

Drum-roll please...

Ole's Layout

btw - I recommend enlarging the image by hitting the little "+" symbol.
(meaning, in the upper left corner of the image is a magnifying glass symbol with a "+" and a "-", if you hit the "+" it does give you a view with much more detail.)

As soon as I saw this, I LOVED IT!

Great job Ole!!!

I have not taken the time to analyse this enough to know if EVERYTHING plays perfectly.

I just wanted to get this posted on BGG ASAP because it is so cool!

This is an initial design and he and I (and YOU) might still yet realize that these are a few changes that need to happen.

Ole has designed this to be fun and different. He also, of course wants it to still work with ALL the Event Cards.

Sooo...

Let us know if you notice anything in that area, meaning...

Can you find an Event Card that does NOT work with this map?

If so, let us know.

(including ALL the Rioting Gangs Cards, etc.)

And...

Do you think this map is TOO HARD?

Let us know your thoughts on that too.

Point of Clarity:

There would be a special rule for the construction zone on Colfax which forces all traffic to slow down going though. This is handled by making players end their movement on the Street Space.

My Initial Thoughts:

I would have the construction zone take one space off of movement (not completely stop it).

If we don't end up doing that, I would be in favor of placing more things to handle at the point of the construction. So there could be 1-2 Bad Hoods right there, and another one or more entrances to buildings, or...

Possibly the crime scene!

Please know that these are...

Just initial thoughts, and just mine.

I want to hear what YOU think!

Rmember, I have not played the game or read the rulebook....so grain of salt here.

My untrained first glance reveals a lot of roadways in comparison to the amount of places where you can "do things". Maybe there is a lot of game action on the actual asphalt, but it seems like a large board with a bunch of filler pavement. Maybe mix in some narrow alleyways, instead of full size streets, to give more room for a park, or electrical substation, or water treatment plant.

Again, I'm no authority even as a player....but maybe I offer a "window shopper's" viewpoint. Regardless, I do like the map.

Oh there could be a lot of crime in that park! But then that would take new cards that would only work on the B side.

To be honest...

We never really thought in those terms, but...

My wheels are now turning at top speed.

Interesting!!!!

We are pretty sure that this board will be available as an a la carte item for 1st edition owners to pick up if they want.

Assuming this is true, then...

why not stick some extra locations on the board (if they can fit)!

Then later (down the road at some point)...

We could release a Booster-Pack that includes Events occurring at those locations.

Ole is sort of flirting with this idea here, by putting a Jail on the board (the old Jail was just a holding-tank at the Precinct House.

This is worthy of discussion!

So...

Thanks!!!!

Keep the ideas comin'.

Well...

Since the wheels are turning, I wonder how feasible it would be to also create and include tiles of new features (buildings, parks, undeveloped area, city dump, sports arena, etc) that would lie on top of and cover locations on the existing board(s)? These would be packaged with and work in unison with sets of future expansion cards. This would create an ever changing and customizable experience for as long as there are expansions produced.

First Edition KS owner here.

Any chance you will be doing a card/board upgrade pack so we can get Side B and the new cards as well?
