Q: Are we not men?

So I've read a lot of discussion about how Akash'Bhuta is kind of a weak villain, but having never played versus her (him? it?), we played a 4 player game last night against her, and we got *demolished*. Which was unusual, as the general consensus was that it isn't that often that the heroes lose in general, let alone get completely wiped out like this.

So we had Akash'Bhuta in The Ruins of Atlantis, vs Tempest, Ra, Bunker, and Visionary.

On the first Villain turn, we flipped over Primeval Eruption, which got 3 (of 4) Primeval Limbs into play (something like a Living Rockslide, an Ensnaring Brambles, and a Mountainous Carapace). We get beat up a little. The heroes don't have much good to play early on, so we mostly just draw some cards and get to the Environment turn, where we hit a Leaking Room, which prevents us from playing cards the next time around the table. Akash'Bhuta goes again, flips another Primeval Eruption, getting another 2 or 3 Limbs into play, and we all get beaten on some, as we have very little in play at this point. Another time around the table, and we can't play hero cards, so not much happens. We get back to the Environment turn, and a Kraken shows up, which flips over an Entomb. On Akash'Bhuta's turn, we all get blasted by the Entomb for 4 damage, find another Limb or something, and all get beaten down some.

Things go like this for another turn or two around the table. The Phosphorescent Chamber shows up (which makes everything do +1 damage and heal +1 HP, as well as discard a card; we figure the bonuses are worth the discard, so we leave this in play for a while). We are getting pounded on by various limbs and the occasional Atlantean Hallway Collapse and Mystical Defenses. With every hero at the table below half starting HP, we finally get set up a bit, and start being able to hurt the villains. We rally, clear the board of all the various limbs with a good turn of mass damage (where the Phosphorescent Chamber really pays off, along with Ra's "No 2 Heroes Are Not On Fire" card, that also gives us all +1 damage), and Tempest gets his Healing Rain card into play, so we all gain 3 HP a time around the table for a few turns. Things start looking up! We heal some, keep the table clear for a bit, and start really hurting Akash'Bhuta.

Then everything goes to hell. An Earth's Sacrifice wipes out most of our helpful ongoing cards (specifically Cleansing Downpour and Ra's damage bonus provider). We get tied up by another Leaking Room. We try to get back up to speed. Another Kraken hits the table on the Environment turn, which plays the top card of the Villain deck, which is a Disrupt the Field, which takes out the Kraken, but puts an Entomb into play, flips over the top card of the environment deck, putting Mystical Defenses into play. Which triggers Akash'Bhuta's power, and puts a *second* Entomb onto the table.

At the start of the next Villain turn, between the two Entombs and the Phosphorescent Chamber we didn't destroy, everyone at the table takes 5+5 psychic damage, which kills everyone but Bunker. Bunker holds on for a few more turns around the table, being supported by the other three dead heroes, and even seems like he is making headway. Until the Ensnaring Brambles enters play, preventing Bunker from hurting anything ever again. Soon he is dead, and Akash'Bhuta is victorious.

Akash'Bhuta seems pretty dangerous. I mean, we got it down to about 75 HP before getting all wiped off the table, but those Entombs are brutal, especially as they occasionally hit the table on the Environment turn (sometimes twice…). It didn't at all help that the Ruins of Atlantis hits everyone for 3 (which was actually 4) damage occasionally, prevents you from playing cards, and whenever a Kraken shows up, Akash'Bhuta explodes.

In any case, certainly an interesting game, and one of the first ones in a while where we were brutally demolished.

So in retrospect, after looking closely at Akash'Bhuta's deck, really, it seems more like The Ruins of Atlantis actually killed us all, more so than Akash'Bhuta :-)

Yeah, Akash'Bhuta got some really solid draws at good times (the dual Entomb during the Environment turn, which is really unlikely, is what did us in), but between Leaky Rooms (preventing card plays), Collapsed Hallways (which is a whole lot of global damage), and Phosphorescent Chambers (which we tried to ride out and use to our advantage, which mostly worked, but really, the +1 damage on the Collapsed Hallways and Entombs was really bad for us), Akash'Bhuta was really in the driver's seat. I suspect in a different environment, she is gonna fare less well, generally speaking.
