If there is a match that neither party sees, and the game continues, are they still in a duel until their match goes away or someone grabs the totem, or does their duel end when the next person flips a card?

If someone grabs the token when he has a match, al players who could grab (have grabbed) the totem lose...

So, their duel goes away or, one of them wins when he sees the match, or they both lose when someone else can take the totem for some valid reason.

The rules state "If multiple simultaneous duels are triggered, the dualist who first grabs the totem wins the duel, and any other duels are canceled."

Thus, once a duel starts... any other possible duels are now "inactive." The players who "missed out" on the duel can not restart it once the totem is placed back in the middle, even though the matching cards are still faced up. But, if another matching card is played... it will "reactivate" the matching pair.

In other words, duels can only be started with cards played after the duel. Furthermore, you are not punished for missing a duel.
