I have limited resources and quite a few games already so im looking at getting 1 maybe eventually 2 Feld games. I was thinking between Macao and Bora Bora. I keep hearing about Trajan and Burgundy. I see how high they are ranked vs the other 2. When i look at videos Trajan just doesn't seem all that interesting to me. The overall look and feel of Macao and Bora Bora seem more interesting to me. What i'm looking for is some people that have played them and your opinions.

I'd skip Trajan. The mancala is really cool, but the rest is just bland mini-games.

Macao would be a great choice, as would Castles of Burgundy. I haven't yet tried Bora Bora... it looked a bit too much like the disappointing "point salad" Trajan was.

Im sold. When i watch reviews Macao got my attention more than the others but i've just heard so much about Trajan.

I think ill get Macao then in the future look at Burgundy and Bora Bora closer. Thanks for the quick responses.

I only own 2 - Amerigo and The Pillars of the Earth: Builders Duel and am quite happy with them. However, I mostly play 2 player and find Amerigo to be nice and light in rules (thus easy to get my wife to play it).

I think you'll be happy with your choice.

I've played all the games you mentioned, and a few more Felds besides.

If you can't get your head around the mancala, Trajan is really tough.
While Burgundy is very popular, I find it to be one of the most bland Feld games. They tried to extend it/make it more interesting with more maps, but... bleah.

Bora Bora is a good game, and a solid second pick, but it's far more complex than Burgundy. I would recommend Notre Dame before Bora Bora, and Bruges slightly after Bora Bora. Very slightly.

I don't recommend Macao. It is a good game but to me is the weakest Feld design. I'd go with bora bora or notre dame. I even think Rum & Pirates is better than Macao if you are looking for only one Feld game.

The Castles of Burgundy(CoB) is probably my favourite Feld game. Yes, a lot of people recently are liking Bora Bora more than CoB but I don't know why? I find that CoB is pretty accessible. I also love how the game gives you the ability to set up some great combo moves. Yes, Bora Bora does have some more "perceived" direct interaction because you're playing things down on a central board but CoB still has player interaction because you're able to limit peoples actions from a central board. To me, it's semantics. You're accomplishing the same thing but the way in which you achieve them is different. (Maybe war-gamers would get it more because you're effectively cutting of supply lines?)

That's the one thing that I find funny with people and their knocks with this game. Yes, everyone has their own board and you are't directly hurting people by placing something on their board, but you really are hurting them by not allowing people from getting something that they really want.

I don't know... but I really do think that people like discrediting this game because of its ranking and the designer.

if you only want 1 Feld game i'd say go with Bora Bora, since it contains many aspects you can find in his other games

i haven't tried Macao so i cant say, but between Burgundy, Trajan, and Bora Bora i like Burgundy best

i'd also skip Trajan, only the mancala is unique anyway

In my experience, Macao fell flat and I traded it away after a few plays. I can't pinpoint it, but it just didn't work for me (and most of who played it with me).

CoB is a great game (2 players being my favourite) and Trajan being just awesome, again in my experience.

If you you're interested, you might want to look at Roma and Arena: Roma II for Feld games for 2 players only. Not exactly what you're looking for, but you never know what might work.

Test
Consider The Speicherstadt which is readily available, nice auction mechanic, card drafting, point salad, contract fulfillment. An underrated gem.

i own 7 Feld games and we like them all.

All off his games feel very different and has some great mecanics.

CoB very good game : rolling dice, buying and building tiles
So is Macao : rondel system, delevering goods
Bora Bora : also a really good mix off getting points and the many ways to get them

Brugges : very nice little card game, plays smooth and fast

I've played four Feld games: Burgundy, Bora Bora, Trajan and Bruges (I also own Macao and In The Year Of The Dragon but have yet to play either).

I liked all of them quite a bit.

For two players I would probably suggest Burgundy.

For 4 players I would probably suggest Bora Bora.
