The KSJ unit shows a rider of a horse, which looks a lot like the Ottoman cavalry units.
Is it correct that they are actually regulars?

It matters of course because cavalry don't get a defence die when besieged.

"Cavalry: Only the Ottoman player possesses cavalry units."

I assume they made the counter different so it was easily distinguishable from the other grey independent counters.

They are not cavalry. They get the defense die.
