I saw the headline and immediately thought of boardgames. Alas, no mention of games. Still interesting though.

That is bizarre. I've never heard of unboxing videos, but it sounds like you might've found a lucrative unserviced subcategory, Tim, if you want to take on game boxes.

I only watch an unboxing video to see components for game if there are not decent pictures out or to see life sized dimensions. I watch some other very bizarre videos though. At first ASMR videos are even more strange.

Revision3 used to have a show titled "Unboxing Porn" in which they unboxed new electronic gadgets and game consoles. I don't really see what's strange about unboxing videos. It's no different than looking up pictures to see what comes in the box.

I sometimes watch unboxing videos for electronics to figure out how they go back into the original packaging at times in which I'm moving or need to return the product because of a defect.
