Looking at Mark's great play test pictures, the map he is using has nice oversized hexes that allow lots of room for the large counter density that could occur in this game which will have a lot more units in play than Red Winter. Is this going to be how the final map will be published?

Yes, the hexes are quite large; enough to accomodate an array of four 5/8" counters.

And stacking is conveniently 4 units, with a few exceptions.

What is the historical area covered by the way? In terms of geography? Is each hex still the same scale as Red Winter?

Yes, same hex scale, time scale, and (for the most part) unit scale. Hexes are 425 yards. Turns are 90 min. Units are company-sized infantry, with platoon-sized scouts and pioneers, and (mostly) AFV troops/platoons of 3-6 vehicles.

This is the Bordel river valley area west of Caen, around Fontenay and Rauray, where the open corn fields on the north half of the map gradually give way to denser bocage country on the south half. Map limits are from Cristot and vicinity in the north, to Juvigny in the west, to just shy of Cheux (Operation Epsom / Scottish Corridor) in the east, to just shy of Noyers/Missy in the south. As compared to Red Winter, it's a smaller area of coverage, but enlarged. That means fewer but bigger hexes. And still a single mapper.

Topic is the British 49th "Polar Bears" Division with 8th Armoured Division (tanks) attacking into the breach between 12SS and Panzer Lehr Divisions, the goal being to capture the high ground near Rauray in order to protect the exposed right flank of Op Epsom, to kick off only 27 hours later. This area saw some particularly fierce fighting in mid June to early July '44, but has not been explicitly gamed.

Kev, you should have stopped by for a demo /Q&A at Game on! We were expecting you.
