Hmm... the Z-95 has some under-slung munitions pods clipped to the wings that I haven't seen before on any variant of the series... might need to clip those off when I get a few, since I like my Z-95s as close to the popular make as possible.

The TIE Defender looks amazing. I'll still crave ones derived from the original game model, but this is just as good! Can't wait to hold one in my hands

Thanks for these xBino!

I wish that E-wing was a little more exciting. A little beefier. A little something. I dunno.

I know that's what they look like, but I just want it to stand out!

Yeah, i know what you're saying. There's something about the defender that looks menacing and has a sense of presence due to its size, while the E-Wing doesn't really move me when I see it.

Maybe I'm just dead inside?

And where does the R7 unit go???

The other thing I noticed was the height at which those large ships sit at. Look at the third Tantive picture in relation to the Z-95 that is sitting on two pegs. It's going to feel totally epic once those ships hit the table!

I guess the E-wing has a hatch cover for the R5 unit.

A more interesting question would be how the cockpit canopy is supposed to open with a gun right there. It's detached in the above image for maintenance, but what happens if a landed pilot just needs to get out?

Or is it just hinged with the canopy and detaches whenenever it needs to open? Hmm.

I think the E-Wing is okay. I don't think I'll be going overboard on this wave... two of everything but maybe four Z-95s eventually to use as pirate defenders or rebel second-liners for scenarios. Depending on their pilots I might use them as list filler as well.

I really dig the Tie Defender (love it!!!), the Tie Phantom (cloaking?, take my money!) and the Z-95 (cheap and stylish).

I can't get excited for the E-Wing, too. It just looks underwhelming by design, even if I'm sure that it will be fun to fly some of them in the game.

Yeah - it looks really "generic" - like it could have come out of pretty much any SF setting.

I'm not too fond of the Defender either, but it's certainly not boring. I'll give it that.

I like the look of the Z-95 and Phantom, though.

In that picture it looks to me like the barrel is pointing straight up and the other half is exposed behind the droid. How they connect back up I'm not sure, since it looks like there should be a sliding top over the droid to join them back together but in that rendering there isn't a seam so it can move.

Those look pretty sweet. I'm going to have to pick up a TIE-D and a Phantom despite myself. The Tantavive is also a must, plus a handful of Z-95s. The E-wing doesn't really do anything for me though.

The E-Wing was an escort fighter, put into production in the early days of the New Republic. The goal was to update the aging fight craft left over from the civil war, and creat something more suited to a peace time stance. To that end, the E-Wing was built to have the speed of an A-Wing, abd the fighting ability of an X-Wing. Like most hybrid things in life, it ended up being good at neither escorting, nor dogfighting, and fell out of use in only a few years.

The seam is underneath there, it just doesn't go all the way to the hatch.

For the design of the tie defender, you would think the three wings would sweep inward rather than outward consistent with the Tie Interceptor, bomber and advanced. It is rather odd looking and probably won't fit in the storage containers most people have. Is that the one with 4 attack, seeing how it has 6 lasers?

It actually has 4 laser cannons and 2 ion cannons. FFG gave it the same primary Attack as an X-wing to reflect the lasers, and a cannon slot to reflect the ions. (So I suppose a "canon" Defender is actually 33 points…)

I thought the E-Wing's wings were supposed to be more bowed, not so flat looking?

That way it looks more like an 'E' (though that concept in general is silly since they don't use a roman alphabet). Didn't Dark Empire introduce these ships, or is my memory off?

Could be a perspective thing, seeing as your illustration in addition to what's out there are typically using a wide-angle sort of look that's more dramatic, but can exaggerate lines, so I'm with you here.

A sharply angled winged would give it an "edgier" look i think.

It seemed to me like the E-Wing was the Hawker hurricane to the X-Wing's Supermarine Spitfire. The X_Wing was much better known and had a larger impact on starfighter development but the E-Wing was a capable fighter in it's own right but completely overshadowed.

Some sort of 'tail fin' would have improved the E-Wing design, too.

The Phantom has a cool look. And I do like the Headhunters. Am I the only one who thinks TIE Defender is ugly looking?

No. I think it was over designed. Seems like they were trying to make it 100% cooler (!!!) but it just looks like they were trying to hard.

If it was 100% cooler, it would have 4 panels, not 3!

I understand there are several designs of the Tie-D out there, but if they brought in the panels closer to the body, elongated them to look more like daggers and more menacing, that would have gone a long way imo

Every time someone says this I keep wanting to post the TIE Oppressor as the counter-example. Tri-symmetry takes some artistic sense to pull off, hot-gluing a third wing on a TIE Advanced does not.

I also remind folks that the Empire builds the best capital ships, the best superweapons, and the best ground assault vehicles in the Star Wars universe. It is not a stretch to imagine they can build the best starfighter in the galaxy.
