Hello people!

We just launched our campaign on KS and here's the link:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magecompany/hoyuk?ref=b...

The campaign will last 34 days so it would be cool if you could check it out one of these days.

Also here are some avatars for you to use:

I'm a bit confused, why starting with two different crowdfunding platform at the same time, with similar stretch goals? If a certain stretch goals is unlocked, say, on kickstarter, it will be included also in the copy from the spieleschmiede campaign or are the two campaigns independent?

The campaign on Spiele Schmiede is to localize Hoyuk in Germany. Both campaigns are connected, meaning if the stretch goals of Kickstarter are met also Spiele Schmiede backers get the rewards, and vice versa.

I'm very interested in this game, it looks great but I am also a bit concerned about the stretch goals.

When each goal is unlocked, there is going to be new rules added (for villagers, cattle, shaman, and new disaster cards)?

Have these new elements of the game been play-tested to the same degree of the base game?

Will game length be affected by these additions?

Will the game be more complex as a result?

If these goals are unlocked, will they be included in the retail game or just to KS Backers?

It would be great to hear some information about this.

The game looks great but I am unsure of how the stretch goals will affect it.

Yes there are. We explain it in the campaign.

Have these new elements of the game been play-tested to the same degree of the base game?

Of course. We cannot offer goals which have not been tested.

Will game length be affected by these additions?

The playing time stays as we said and we calculated these components too.

Will the game be more complex as a result?

A little yes. It will be for those who want to make the game more challenging.

If these goals are unlocked, will they be included in the retail game or just to KS Backers?

We state it in the campaign they are upgrades to the game and will be available later.

Hi again, we have another update!

We were thinking from the beginning to make Höyük bilingual: English and German!

Due to some changes we will be able to create a Trilingual: English-German-French! This is important especially for people from France, Belgium or Canada. So spread the word around and let your friends know about these news.

If during the campaign we have more news on other languages, we will let you know!

Hi everyone,

We have prepared some Extras - Add on Items for Höyük.

1. MAGE Company Sleeves ($3 per pack):

Each pack includes 50 sleeves

Thickness is 1mm therefore we will provide the best possible quality.

For the game you need 2 packs

2. HOYUK OBSTACLES BOX $15 (including shipping for all the countries)

The Obstacles Box includes 5 unique landscapes - boards

Each board has its own size and is different from the others

Volcano:

Hill:

Frozen Lake:

Hole:

Desert:

Choose 1 or 2 Obstacles before the game begins and place them as you want on the board, inside the playing area. As you know the board has a grid. It will be easy to place the obstacle in the area you want. The Obstacles limit the space you have to build and make the game more difficult. You must be more careful how you will build your Block since your opponents will try to find a way and stop you from growing your Block!

3. Extra Wooden Shrine Pieces ($4)

This pack includes 20 extra Wooden Shrine Pieces

3. Extra Wooden Oven Pieces ($4)

This pack includes 20 extra Wooden Oven Pieces

I don't get the thinking behind the obstacle expansion. Five pieces of cardboard should be some stretch goal or promo. As it stands, it seems overpriced and overproduced.

They are not overpriced and you do not mention that the box size is 22 x 22 cm, includes 5 BOARDS and not cardboards and include ship fees too. They are normal boards, with the thickness and the material of a board. Also there are rules and how you can use each one. We will post details soon.

Cheers,

When people say game boards, I am thinking of the large playing surfaces that need to fold several times in order to fit into a box. Is the expansion for 5 of these?

Well... it pleases me that the Obstacles will each have their own rules - look forward to seeing a sample for them.

I only wish there were some degree of natural resources on the board to incorporate into the gameplay, but ce la vis. Looks very interesting, and have provisionally backed.

Hi everyone,

GrandCon PACK PICKUP: You will receive 1 copy of Höyük + All Unlocked Upgrade Stretch Goals (total value: $55). Pledge an additional $18 to receive 1 copy of Wrong Chemistry. NOTE: You will have to wait until September for GrandCon in Grand Rapids, Michigan where you can come and pick up your reward.

This reward is like Essen Spiel in Germany where people visit the con and there can get their reward. So now we try to add few levels from several Cons in USA in order to offer even better prices for the people. We try to do the best for it. So if you know any people around Michigan, here is a good chance to get the game.

Sorry for double posting this but I wanted to reach all potential interested gamers:

Stretch goals can be reached by just reaching the minimum amount at Spieleschmiede:

"Hi everyone,

In this campaign we will talk about the Stretch Goals.

Currently we run 2 campaigns for Hoyuk: The first campaign is here on Kickstarter and the second is on Spieleschmiede. We almost reached 20K here while on Spieleschmiede we need 6-8 smithies in the 3 days which left in order to fund the game there and localize the German version of the game. Here is how it works: We collect the funds from both campaigns, combine them in order to reach the goals faster. However from Spieleschmiede we take only the half funds since in Germany the system is different and we have to pay and taxes, so from the basic funding we can take the half. Based on the combined funds we have the following result:

If the campaign is funded there in the following 1, 2 days max, then we will open 3 Stretch Goals immediately.

1. Villagers

2. New Aspects

3. Cattle

AND

We will adjust the rest goals!

So don't think that the project is not moving good, it is.. but running parallel campaigns has a disadvantage, that we divide people. On the other hand we have 11 days.. a lot of time. Spread the word to a couple of your friends who might like the game and let them join our project.

Stay tuned! More are coming!

Hoyuk Preview - Tile Placement Made New
By JONATHAN BOLDING

Höyük is an upcoming tile placement city building game themed around neolithic cities, and has had a long road leading up to its current Kickstarter. I was able to access and play the game before its printing via print-and-play files provided by publisher MAGE Company, and what I found feels like a forgotten classic. It has flavors of Carcassonne, but with an almost SimCity-esque twist of big picture management.

In Höyük, your basic action is to place homes, ovens, shrines, and animal pens onto the growing city board. What you're allowed to place is based on the draw of a random card with the symbols of one or more structures. As tiles are placed, you build up blocks of houses and features of your color connected to blocks of your opponent's houses. When space starts to get tight, you expand upwards - as neolithic settlements historically did - and put houses on top of houses. Features like the shrines, ovens, and pens alternately allow you to score more points, ward off disasters, or limit where opponents can build. As the game goes on, random cards won by having the most of certain kinds of city features are played to either place more tiles for an advantage later on or score victory points.

Unlike Carcassone, Höyük's decisions feel like they matter for a long time after you make them. While in other tile placement games you score as you place tiles, or as features get completed, your long term vision really seems to matter. Höyük is certainly a heavier, more strategic game than other tile placement games of city builders, but I was very pleased with the way it panned out. Further, it included rules for basic, intermediate, and advanced games, each playing slower or more tactically than the other. For most groups, I'd guess that the Intermediate game will be a sweet spot - about as long as Carcassone, but with a tactical richness that it lacks.

All of this richness is balanced, sometimes frustratingly so, by the Catastrophe cards. See, the catastrophes are things like packs of wolves, earthquakes, invading enemies, or famines that destroy chunks of city blocks. As they appear, they randomly target different blocks based on characteristics like "tallest houses" and "least shrines." On one hand, they're great - they keep the board from devolving into a static game of expansion where only certain sections of the board are active. On the other hand, they can be intensely frustrating, as the only thing keeping you from sliding into last place gets obliterated by random chance. It's an odd concession for a game with otherwise traditional European design elements, but doesn't feel entirely out of place since each catastrophe can realistically only show up once - so if you got screwed because you had only one shrine, you won't get screwed for not having shrines again.

Höyük's art is nice, with lots of rounded edges and whimsical design. The colors are rich, but the game doesn't depend on them and should be quite friendly to colorblind players. It's hard to tell what the game will look like until the final product is out. If the pieces aren't high quality, the game will probably look quite washed out. Otherwise? This one will look great on the table.

What's the purpose of the extra shrine and oven pieces? Is it likely that there will not be enough pieces in the box? Are they just extras for people who like funny-shaped wooden things?

Is posted on KS:
You can use them as replacements or for other games.
