Welcome to PBF 134! I was browsing past games, and I found this variant. It looks pretty fun so I thought I'd mod it. Original game here: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/818718/pbf26-seeker-variant-...

Variant Rules (taken from Clyde's game above):

However, there is one slight twist to this particular game. One player, selected at random and known to all, will be called The Seeker. The Seeker is just like any other player, except that they don't know what role they've been dealt. If they are a spy, they do not realize this, nor do they know who their fellow spies are. If they are Resistance, they do not realize that they're on the side of good. They must seek out their role over the course of the game and ultimately bring victory to the side they are on. After Mission 1 goes and comes back with results, the Seeker will be allowed to discover the identity of one of the players at the table. They will give an order in public (bolded) that they wish to do this and to which player, and the moderator will reveal to them the chosen player's identity (spy or rebel) via a GeekMail. After Mission 2 comes back with results, the Seeker will get another opportunity to examine the role of another player. After Mission 3 comes back, the Seeker will get one final chance to look at another player's role. These are the only three opportunities for the Seeker to look at other players' role cards. After that, the Seeker must use deduction and logic to determine their role. They win with their given role, regardless of what it is, regardless of what role they believe they have. The Seeker, when assigned onto approved missions, may pass or fail them, as if they were a Spy.

Re: PBF #134 - The Seeker Returns - (IN SIGN UPS!)
7 players: 4 rebels, 3 spies. (Seeker can be either a rebel or a spy)

Missions are 2 / 3 / 3 / 4*/ 4 /
*Fourth mission needs 2 fails.

Role GMs:

Rebel - You are a Rebel. Good luck!

Spy - You are a Spy. The other spies are May and May. Good luck!

Seeker- You are the Seeker. Good luck!

PBF Rules:

1. Official mission proposals must be in bold and contain the mission number and proposal number. For example:
PBF 134: M1.1 May, May
Per standard PBF etiquette, the fifth proposal (the “hammer”) will automatically be sent.

1.1. Also per standard PBF etiquette, in the event of a 2-2 tie, I will automatically submit mission cards on mission 5 (i.e. PASS for rebels, FAIL for spies) unless someone requests otherwise.

2. All votes should be GMed to your mod, maytheodds. Please send your vote in the subject line. For example "PBF 134 M1.1 YES". Voting Links will be provided!

3. There is a non-strict time limit of 24 hrs on every official game action. If you are going to take much longer than that, please post in the thread in advance. Weekends are usually not included. I will remind you by GM after 24 hrs.

4. No game-related discussion is allowed outside the thread until the game is completed. This includes GMs between players and posts in other threads. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me in a GM.

5. Editing of posts is discouraged, and is usually allowed only in the first few minutes to fix typographical or formatting errors. If you edit a post, please include an addendum to indicate the reason for the edit. e.g. Edit: Fixed a typo.

6. No dice have been provided to you. You may not use the Geekroller in this thread.

7. Please subscribe to the thread and check in at least daily (exceptions for weekends).

8. Submission changes rule: You can change a submitted card any number of times (eg PASS/FAIL, ACCEPT/REJECT) but as soon as I receive the card from the last player, no more changes are allowed, even if I'm not there to post the results yet. If you made changes after all the cards were in, I'll tell you which submitted card was the final one.

8.1 If you do change your card, include CHANGE in the subject. For example:
PBF 134 M1.1 NO (CHANGE)

9. I welcome messages from players explaining your thoughts/guesses/feelings as the game progresses. I may not always respond (so as to avoid giving out privileged information) but I would enjoy reading anything you might send!

10. Remember everyone is here to have fun! Bullying, cursing, and other poor conduct is frowned upon.

(Copied from Natsume's #133 Rules with my own modifications in bold)

A life, some would argue, is a series of problems. There’s no denying the truth in that – but why get lost in it? Why not rise above the truth… and lead a good life? Shouldn’t we all look at problems as a chance for us to find… solutions?

Interesting. I will consider this.
Do the spies know whether or not the seeker is a spy? My assumption is that they would have to as this isn't blind spies. (After all, if the seeker is a rebel, the spies know who their two allied spies are.)

Yes, the spies will know the other two spies. The Seeker is announced at the beginning, so the spies will know the loyalty of the Seeker.

Hmm...yeah, I could go for this one... Please sign me up!

Question...if the Seeker gets put on M1, then they HAVE to vote it up, right? What if they THINK they're a spy and FAIL a mission, but they're really rebel (because their logic was faulty)? Surely the mod doesn't step in and correct this behavior, right?

To my understanding, they never have to vote up any mission.

If they think they're a spy, they can pass or fail the mission. If they think they're a rebel, they can pass or fail a mission. Mod won't change a thing. So the rebels can still lose if they send a clean M5. And the spies can still lose if they send a dirty M5. It's all up to the seeker!
