Continuing the racing theme, still with 6 players, out came this Ave Caesar clone (or is it vice versa). We chose a hard track, Nurburg-Ring, but blindly used the pit rules as written instead of thinking about it beforehand (again). As played, the 2 cars on the first grid could afford 4 extra spaces to be able to make it home. The two cars on the back grid could only afford to take 2 extra spaces. We made it a bit easier by playing with a hand of 3 rather than 2.

With no chicanes, the race became somewhat of a procession, with little effective blocking (barring deliberate slow-downs to take the optimal racing line) and final positions largely emulated the grid. Jeff won the race from pole using an ‘average’ speed deck, jostling with Lindsay throughout the race, and Rick not far behind. Rob and I chose ‘slow’ decks from the back row of the grid, and managed to work our way up to 3rd and 5th, partly due to Garth puttering out of fuel. I suspect ‘fast’ decks from the back may be the go, but it’s at the risk of being forced to take a few non-optimal lines as you weave your way thru the pack.

Positions: Jeff, Rick, Rob, Lindsay, Pat, Garth

A rating of 6 after 2 plays; ok game for some occasional fun. Selection of track and developing pit rule variants will be the key to this successfully getting another run.
