I have a far away friend who wants to play Go with me, but is insisting that we play via an Iphone app (because I want to play Go instead of Chess, which he prefers and has an app for).

I'd require interface in English and I'd prefer asynchronous play if possible. Does anyone know if such exists?

If you're playing asynchronously, you could just use a correspondence server accessible by ordinary web browser, e.g.:

What about an iphone app? I 'm sorry to nit-pick, but my friend is very stubborn and wants to be able to play on his phone with a nice interface.

There is an app that allows you to use Dragon Go Server... I haven't used it in forever though...

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dragon-go-client/id384372078...

Due to the turn based nature of the DGS site I'm not sure if it's really what you are looking for though. Sounds like you want more of a "live" situation.

Yeah, I was going to suggest that one, but the OP asked for an app specifically. I don't think there's a OGS app yet, either for android or iOS?
The android one is in beta.

You can use Boardz (either for go or chess). It supports asynchronous play. It's not the most fancy go app on the market but it does the job.

A good reference to look at:

Panada Net (IGS) has a pretty good app. I use it on the iPad, but I think it works on iPhone too... Though I don't really know how easy it is to see on the small screen... Live, not asynch... You can find your friend and set up a game--or play a lot of other folks...
