I saw this on there but miss the significance.

Please bring me up to speed?
Beyond being mouse mat, what's special about this to make me want to buy it?
Sincere question.

I have the full ultimate mdf set from the first KS.

Lol.
I got that.
And congrats by the way Shawn.

What I mean, is there a special game play mechanic of the mat?
Is it styled different?
Or useful for game layout, etc etc?

I understand Shawn designed it, what makes the design special, and worth getting, beyond a fellow BGGeer having designed it?

The mat is named after Shawn - why isn't that enough!?!?!?

I don't think there is any real gameplay difference. My understanding is that it adds specific spaces for you to place cards and action tokens etc. It may also have slightly larger hexes so that your figures have a little more space in each hex (not sure on this though).

Neither of these are what I would call critical "must haves" but they are useful in terms of removing potential minor annoyances from gameplay.

Thanks for the info.
I have the full mdf pitch.
But this is tempting none the less.

Another point which I just thought of (but which you are prob already aware of).

The mouse mat material may (may!) have better grip than MDF so that its a little bit harder to nudge your mini's out of position. Coupled with the slightly larger hex size (assuming that the hexes are slightly bigger), this may actually remove one of the more common annoyance complaints leveled at the DB pitch.

Bear in mind that there are a LOT of ifs and maybes in that last para tho!

I've yet to compare the mdf hexes to the board, but I believe they they are the same size.
As for grip, Id planned on putting a thin layer of something on onto mdf to help with that before painting it up.
Have yet to decide what would work best.

So all in all, this may very well be worth it, especially if the hexes are bigger.

Have plenty or time till the manager comes out to decide.
