Hi this might be a bit unusual question, but I wonder if someone can recommend games that have minimalistic (and beautiful) graphic design? Seem like many good games do too much of a [classic] comic-book style or pseudo-realistic and it takes some effort to get over the design to get to the actual game.

I understand it might be a taste thing, but still why not ask..

So the perfect example of such design is Twilight Struggle (the cover art is already amazing) and then it only gets better (could only get better if they used similar style for cards, but that's crazy amount of work).

Looking basically for something with the similar design appeal. Comparably deep, plays with 2 (or 2+) players. Not wargame (or not a direct wargame like C&C or hex/counter) and not an abstract (like Dvonn etc.).

Besides Twilight really like Mr. Jack (for mechanics, the design is opposite of what looking for).

If someone knows a list with such games - perfect!

Seems the black box edition of Glory to Rome is the very definition of minimalistic design, though I don't consider it to be beautiful. I prefer the original cartoony art, but I'm apparently in the minority.

I will redesign any game you want to a form of minimalism for a fortune.

Yes I think this would be a great aftermarket enterprise!

Polis: Fight for the Hegemony has a nice, Euro look to it.

Navegador has nice art, and plays great with 2.

1775: Rebellion supposedly works well with 2 payers. It's not as deep though.

Antiquity will cost you, but it supposedly plays great with 2.

Brass: Lancashire - I'm a huge fan of Brass with the 2-player variant. The artwork is definitely not flashy.

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization plays great with 2. It's deep. And I think it's got what you're looking for in artwork.

The more I type, the more I realize there are a bunch that fit. Just look for deeper Euros that play with 2 players.

Most of Martin Wallace's games scratch that itch for me. Maybe not the box covers, but certainly the boards/cards.

I love Tokaido for its graphic presentation, and though the gameplay might not be quite as deep as what you're seeking, at the same time it can be almost a zen-like experience.

The older versions of Acquire:

Every game published initially by Winsome Games.

Nearly every one of the games in the 18xx family.

I'd certainly call the graphic design of Winsome Games minimalistic:

I always had a soft spot for Sorcerer, one of SPI's flatbox editions. For SPI it was like a glow stick light show at rave.

I also really like SPI's John Carter game's graphics. Minimalist, but engaging. I even love all the little stick figure icons for the different Martians.

Dominant Species was one of the first I thought of, but it doesn't get great reviews as a 2-player game, which is what the OP is requesting.

Many of the best sugestions for your criterias (except the one about that it can't be a abstract game) would be abstract games - they are often depp two-player games with minimalistic graphic design, so maybe you should consider abstract games after all.

There are also many two player games that can be played with a regular set of play cards - the graphic design don't get more simple than that.

Yes! YES!

I’m unspeakably relieved that I own the 2nd edition, because the third edition makes me throw up in my mouth. gulp
